Andy Dalton Says He Isn't A Backup, Not '32 Guys Better Than Me'

Jul 3, 2023 9:44 AM

Andy Dalton has bounced around as a backup and part-time starter since his time with the Cincinnati Bengals ended upon Joe Burrow's arrival.

Dalton signed with the Carolina Panthers this offseason, a decision the quarterback knew likely made him a backup behind No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young.

However, Dalton doesn't see himself as a No. 2.

"I view myself as a starter in this league; I don't think there are 32 guys better than me," Dalton said. "But this is the situation I am in, and I understand that. As soon as I don't think I'm one of the best 32, or a little lower, I'll be watching football on TV."
