Joe Flacco Trying To Respond To Ravens' QB Competition

Jun 14, 2018 11:54 AM

The Baltimore Ravens drafted Lamar Jackson at the end of the first round and Joe Flacco has responded by showing up to minicamp in the best shape of his career.

"He's obviously been challenged," safety Eric Weddle said. "Drafting Lamar [Jackson] and bringing [Robert] Griffin in, it’s lit a fire under him. You can tell. It has shown."

The Ravens could conceivably look to trade Flacco in the future depending on how they feel Jackson develops, similar to the Chiefs' situation with Alex Smith and Patrick Mahomes.

The timetable could be determined by Flacco's play and Jackson's development.

"When you pick a quarterback or anybody in the first round, it means something," Flacco said last month on the drafting of Jackson.

Lamar Jackson Reminding Ravens Of 'Young Michael Vick'

Jun 12, 2018 7:18 PM

While the Ravens are using Lamar Jackson at multiple positions during minicamp, he has impressed his teammates at quarterback.

"Every time he runs I’m in awe because most people -- especially a quarterback -- can’t move the way he does," wide receiver Chris Moore said after the Ravens' first day of mandatory minicamp. "So you just know that this year he’s going to make some plays, for sure."

Moving Jackson all over the field has created a challenge for the Ravens' defense.

"It’s very creative," Pro Bowl linebacker C.J. Mosley said. "We don’t really know it’s going to work until we put it out there. It’s been giving us some problems on some of the plays. It’s cool just to see the way we can switch things up with quarterbacks. As long as we don’t have Joe [Flacco] doing too much running, that’s really all that matters."

Jackson has even elicited opinions to Michael Vick.

"Once he gets out of the pocket, it’s like watching a young Michael Vick," Mosley said. "It’s amazing to watch. When you’re defending him, you just have to act like you’re tagging off -- you don’t want to be on the highlight reel."

Ravens Lose Two OTAs, Fined For Rules Violation

Jun 7, 2018 1:42 PM

The Baltimore Ravens have cancelled their final two OTAs, and the organization and John Harbaugh have been fined, after the team was found to have violated collectively bargained rules governing contact in offseason workouts.

It's the second time in three years the Ravens have been found in violation of offseason workout rules.

"Our team has been singled out for pass coverage contact during the early part of OTAs," Harbaugh said in a statement.

"Even with consistent and repeated teaching, the rules pose considerable adjustments for the young players. We have tried very hard to eliminate contact in pass coverage during OTAs, even so far as to pull players out of practice who struggle with these adjustments. I am confident we have done everything in our power and ability to practice within the rules, and we will continue to focus on preparing, teaching and practicing the right way."

The NFL's collective bargaining agreement, in place since 2011, prohibits contact during offseason workouts.
