Flacco Can't Participate In Next Ravens' Passing Camp

Oct 21, 2014 3:22 PM

Baltimore Ravens rookie quarterback Joe Flacco will not be able to participate in a four-day passing camp at the end of the month, because of a long-standing agreement between the NFL and the NCAA. The agreement limits a player to one minicamp with a pro team while his school is still in session, reports the Baltimore Sun. That means Flacco, who attended the Ravens' mandatory minicamp last weekend, can't rejoin the Ravens until after final exams end at Delaware on May 30 -- despite the fact Flacco has withdrawn from school. Flacco will practice at two passing camps in June before reporting to training camp in July, The Sun reported. "It doesn't help, but I don't know how much it will hurt," said Flacco's agent, Joe Linta, according to The Sun. "He's a very cerebral kid."

New Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco will miss the team's camp at the end of the month because the University of Delaware has yet to finish the semester, according to The Baltimore Sun. Flacco, who is not expected to hold himself out of camp, will miss the workouts because of a long-standing NFL/NCAA rule restricting rookies from participating in camp until their school's final exams have been completed.

Suggs, Ravens Reach Compromise On Tag

Oct 23, 2014 3:09 AM

Terrell Suggs and the Ravens have reached a compromise regarding the placing of the franchise tag on the defender by creating a "new" position, according to The Baltimore Sun. The two sides agreed upon a one-year deal worth close to $8.5 million, paying him as a hybrid defense end-linebacker. The NFL and the players association are believed to be finalizing the details to sign off on the deal. "His job is to rush the quarterback as a defensive end, and I thought it was unfair that he had to live under the linebacker franchise tag," said Gary Wichard, Suggs' agent. "So, Ozzie [Newsome, Ravens general manager] and I said, 'Let us resolve this as opposed to the attorneys.' I tip my hat off to Ozzie for creating a new franchise tag." When the Ravens placed the franchise tag on him in February, they intended to pay him as a linebacker, but Suggs argued that he should be considered a defense end, a position that averages a higher salary.

Ravens Get Testy With Jobs Up For Grabs

Oct 21, 2014 3:20 PM

Nearly all 85 players in the Ravens' camp were involved in a scuffle on Saturday that began when offensive tackle Oneil Cousins and defensive tackle Amon Gooden starting throwing punches, according to The Associated Press. "Guys are competing, so tempers flare a little bit," new Coach John Harbaugh said. "Man, it's intense out there," tight end Todd Heap said. "Everybody's trying to learn what's going on, and everybody's a little bit on edge." In a way, Harbaugh likes it as he begins to former opinion on who he wants to make the roster this summer. "He's always in control. When it's not going his way, he'll get it going his way," defensive coordinator Rex Ryan said. "That's part of it right now. I think there are a lot of people that are anxious and uncertain. We want it to be chaos. That's what John's talked about. You look at the tempo of our offense, the way we're setting things up, and the different things we're doing under Cam. It's just new. It's more pressure on everybody."

Lewis: Contract Won't Change Approach

Apr 5, 2014 12:03 PM

While Ray Lewis and the Ravens are discussing an extension, the linebacker is entering the final year of his contract with the team and could become a free agent for the first time in his career, according to The Baltimore Sun. He insists that his contract situation will not take away from what the Ravens are trying to accomplish as a team. "That [contract] stuff is irrelevant from what we're trying to do now," Lewis said after the first practice of mandatory minicamp. "The bottom line is whatever we're trying to do as a team, that's the focus. If we keep that team concept there, then that team concept stays there. If you start talking about individual, that means nothing. Everybody knows this is a business, and everything will take care of itself. I'm just excited to be back playing football again."
