McGahee Makes First Pro Bowl

Sep 30, 2014 3:39 PM

Baltimore running back Willis McGahee was named to the Pro Bowl on Wednesday after San Diego's LaDainian Tomlinson withdrew because of injury, according to the Associated Press. The selection is his first. "It is an honor and a privilege to be going to the Pro Bowl, especially when your peers have a say in the matter," McGahee told the AP. "It is a goal that I have had for a long time, and I am going to enjoy every second of this. To be going with three other Ravens is also special. They always told me the first Pro Bowl is always the most special. I can't wait to share this with my teammates."

Ravens Hire John Harbaugh As Head Coach

Sep 30, 2014 2:14 PM

John Harbaugh was hired Friday as head coach of the Ravens, who hope their second choice proves to be a first-rate success. Harbaugh spent this season as Philadelphia's secondary coach after making a name for himself working with special teams. He has never been a head coach but has coaching in his genes -- his father Jack is former head coach at Western Kentucky, and his brother Jim,is head coach at Stanford and a former quarterback with the Ravens. The 45-year-old Harbaugh, who received a four-year contract, will be introduced as the third coach in Ravens' history at a news conference Saturday. His salary wasn't released, but most first-year NFL head coaches get slightly more than $2 million a season.

With Garrett Out, Ravens Weigh Coaching Options

Oct 29, 2014 10:49 PM

The Baltimore Ravens have been forced to call an audible in their search for a new head coach. Baltimore's top choice Jason Garrett has spurned the Ravens in favor of keeping his job as offensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys. "We did negotiate with Jason Garrett to become our head coach. In the end, he decided to stay in Dallas," the Ravens said in a statement Thursday. "We're continuing our second round of interviews. We're excited with the candidates, and we're confident we will select the best head coach for the Ravens." After being rejected by Garrett, owner Steve Bisciotti called for a huddle at the team's training complex to discuss Baltimore's next move. Philadelphia Eagles' Defensive Backs Coach John Harbaugh could be invited back as soon as Friday, and the Ravens have not publicly dismissed the possibility of interviewing former NFL head coach Marty Schottenheimer. Now that Garrett is no longer an option, there is no rush to fill the void created by the dismissal of Brian Billick on Dec. 31.

Ravens Interview Former D-Coordinator Ryan

Oct 4, 2014 5:18 AM

Rex Ryan made his bid to become the Baltimore Ravens' third head coach Sunday, interviewing for several hours with the team's search committee. The popular defensive coordinator was the fourth candidate to meet with the Ravens, after Indianapolis Colts' assistant head coach Jim Caldwell, Dallas Cowboys' assistant head coach Tony Sparano, and Cowboys' offensive coordinator Jason Garrett. Ryan, 45, and the rest of the coaching staff were fired last week along with Coach Brian Billick by team owner Steve Bisciotti following a 5-11 season. The son of former NFL Head Coach Buddy Ryan, he coached the Ravens' defense to rankings of fifth, first, and sixth over the past three seasons. "I think Rex would be a very good choice," Ravens' wide receiver Derrick Mason said. "I've had experience with a former defensive coordinator coming in and being a head coach with Tennessee Titans' coach Jeff Fisher. Rex, he's in the mold of Jeff Fisher, and I think he can do a great job."
