NFL Files Evidence Backing Commissioner In Bounty Case

The NFL on Thursday provided a judge with what it says is evidence Roger Goodell did not improperly pre-judge the players suspended in the bounty case investigation, according to an ESPN.com report.

The evidence includes a copy of a letter the NFLPA sent the league on March 7 asking Goodell to delay punishment of players implicated in the probe.

Wife To Press Charges Against Chad Johnson

Evelyn Lozada will press charges against her husband, Chad Johnson, after a domestic issue on Saturday night. Johnson spent time in jail after allegedly head-butting Lozada in the driveway of their home while they sat in his car. Lozada found a receipt for condoms and claims the wide receiver became upset, grabbed her, and head-butted her. She says Johnson yelled: "I don't give a (expletive)! I don't give a (expletive) about my career!" Johnson claims that Lozada head-butted him, which caused the three-inch laceration that was visible on her forehead. He also said that she yelled "(Expective) it!"

Chad Johnson Arrested For Domestic Violence

Dolphins receiver Chad Johnson was arrested Saturday night for misdemeanor domestic battery, according to the Davie (Fla.) Police Department. Johnson is in police custody, and will have to see a judge before he can be released. The argument started in the couple's car. As they pulled into their driveway, Johnson's wife, reality TV star Evelyn Lozada, claims Johnson leaned over and headbutted her, while Johnson claims Lozada leaned forward and they bumped heads. Lozada has a laceration on her forehead, and was treated on the scene and transported to the hospital.

Former NFL Player Eric Naposki Gets Life For Murder

A former NFL linebacker was sentenced Friday to life in prison without possibility of parole for murdering his lover's boyfriend nearly two decades ago. An Orange County Superior Court judge sentenced Eric Andrew Naposki more than a year after a jury convicted him of first-degree murder in the fatal 1994 shooting of William Francis McLaughlin.

Federal Judge Delays Vilma's Ruling

The judge hearing arguments on the motion to dismiss Jonathan Vilma's lawsuit seeking to overturn his suspension declined to rule on the case Friday. Judge Ginger Berrigan told lawyers Friday that she wanted to rule for Vilma, but had significant concerns whether she could do so legally before another hearing on the matter on Aug. 30.

Sources: Browns Sold For Over $1B

The Browns have been sold by Randy Lerner to Jimmy Haslam for more than $1 billion, according to league sources. The sale of the franchise is laid out in two parts. Haslam will take over controlling interest for over $700 million. Then, in the second phase of the purchase, he will pay over $300 million to complete the deal. NFL ownership is expected to approve Haslam's purchase at its October meeting.

Badgers' Montee Ball Jumped By Five Men

Wisconsin running back Montee Ball was the victim of what police are calling an "unprovoked assault" in Madison, Wis. Ball was attacked by five men near Wisconsin's campus around 2:15 a.m. Wednesday. Witnesses told police the men knocked Ball to the ground and began kicking him.

Goodell Ready To Use Replacement Officals

Roger Goodell says he is comfortable with the idea of using replacement officials in NFL preseason games. One person familiar with contract talks between the NFL and the locked out officials said Tuesday, "I'm 99.9 percent sure replacements will work (the Hall of Fame Game) in Canton."
