Joe Burrow Returns To Practice For First Time Since July 27th

Aug 30, 2023 5:45 PM

Joe Burrow has returned to practice for the first time since injuring his right calf on  July 27th.

During the session that was open to the media, Burrow participated in all the throwing drills with assistant Dan Pitcher and the team's backups.

This is not the first time Burrow has had to deal with an issue leading up to Week 1. In 2021, he was coming off a torn ACL and MCL in his left knee that ended his rookie season. Last year, Burrow suffered a ruptured appendix just before training camp started.

Zac Taylor: Contract Not Why Joe Burrow Isn't Practicing

Aug 30, 2023 9:48 AM

An issue in contract negotiations is not why Joe Burrow is not practicing with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Taylor quickly and firmly denied that Burrow's absence is related to the inability between the quarterback's side and the Bengals to reach a contract extension.

Burrow has not participated in practice since he suffered a strained right calf on the second day of preseason workouts.

Throughout Burrow's contract negotiations and injury recovery, the Bengals have remained tight-lipped about where things stand.

Report: Jaxon Smith-Njigba To Open Season On Active Roster

Aug 29, 2023 8:33 AM

Jaxon Smith-Njigba will open the season on the active roster for the Seattle Seahawks, according to a report.

The rookie wide receiver recently underwent surgery to repair a broken bone in his wrist. Pete Carroll had said the 20th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft would likely be sidelined 3-4 weeks as he recovers.

It remains to be seen if he'll play in Week 1, but keeping him on the active roster is a positive sign that he'll return sooner than later.

49ers Unsure Of Kicking Duties After Multiple Injuries

Aug 26, 2023 8:27 PM

With little more than two weeks left until the regular-season opener, the San Francisco 49ers have little idea who will handle kicking duties against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

That's because, in the span of three days, both of the team's kickers --rookie Jake Moody (right quadriceps) and veteran Zane Gonzalez (right calf) -- suffered injuries to their kicking legs that cast doubt on their availability for Week 1.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba Underwent 'Elaborate Surgery' On Wrist

Aug 25, 2023 7:01 AM

Rookie wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba underwent successful surgery this week to repair a wrist fracture, the Seattle Seahawks announced.

"I haven't heard any word since the surgery other than what they initially said, that everything went great," Pete Carroll said. "They showed us the pictures and all that kind of stuff, so we saw that. It's an elaborate surgery for such a small crack, but it's going to be so safe, so we're really pleased with it, and so is he."

Carroll did not update the timeline he gave earlier this week, which was that the first-rounder is expected to miss 3-4 weeks.

Seahawks' Jaxon Smith-Njigba To Miss 3-4 Weeks After Wrist Surgery

Aug 23, 2023 8:11 AM

The Seattle Seahawks will be without rookie wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba for three-to-four weeks after he has surgery to repair a broken bone in his wrist.

Smith-Njigba traveled to Philadelphia on Tuesday for the surgery, according to Pete Carroll.

"He's got a slight fracture that we just want to make sure we do the right thing to ensure that he gets back as soon as possible and as safe as possible," Carroll said. "We're going to be optimistic about it. Three, four weeks, we'll see what happens. We don't know yet."

The Seahawks open the season on Sept. 10 against the Los Angeles Rams in Seattle. Asked if Smith-Njigba could be back by then, Carroll said, "We're staying optimistic. We'll see what happens."

Panthers' Miles Sanders Says He'll Be Ready For Week 1

Aug 23, 2023 8:09 AM

Miles Sanders says he "absolutely" will be ready for the Carolina Panthers' Sept. 10 opener against the Atlanta Falcons.

Sanders, who signed with the Panthers in free agency, missed the past few weeks of training camp with a groin injury that sidelined him for the first two preseason games.

He practiced in full pads Monday and Tuesday and showed no signs that the injury will be a problem moving forward.
