Manziel May Have Better NFL Future Due To Evolution Of Position

Oct 29, 2014 4:41 PM

Johnny Manziel isn't viewed as a conventional NFL prospect at quarterback historically, but he may be aligned with where the position is moving.

"Nowadays, you have to be special as a pocket passer to get away with being just that," said one area scout. "It's essential to have mobility to make it. I know he's 5-foot-11, 6-foot, but I believe, with the way the league is going, with the success of the mobile quarterback, if he can grow up and study and work, he can be successful."

Manziel has average arm strength, but above average accuracy and excellent athleticism. His biggest issue is his size.

Arian Foster Admits To Being Paid While In College

Nov 17, 2014 10:13 AM

Arian Foster admitted to being paid while playing in college at Tennessee.

"I just feel strong about the injustice that the NCAA has been doing for years," Foster said Friday. "That's why I said what I said. I'm not trying to throw anybody under the bus. ... I feel like I shouldn't have to run from the NCAA anymore. They're like these big bullies. I'm not scared of them."

An excerpt of the documentary was obtained by and posted on SI.com.

"I don't know if this will throw us into an NCAA investigation -- my senior year (2008), I was getting money on the side," Foster said in the video. "I really didn't have any money. I had to either pay the rent or buy some food. I remember the feeling of like, 'Man, be careful.' But there's nothing wrong with it. And you're not going to convince me that there is something wrong with it."

Shaw: Offense Should Remain Simple While Presenting Sophistication

Nov 26, 2014 10:31 AM

Stanford head coach David Shaw was a quality control coach for three years under Jon Gruden with the Oakland Raiders.

Stanford runs a number of different formations designed to confuse the defense.

“He would say it every single day: ‘What you want to do on offense is present the illusion of sophistication but all in all remain very simple and basic,’" said Shaw of Gruden. "So very often we’ll throw a whole bunch of different stuff at them, but we’re going to run a basic day-one installation play. Something we’ve run thousands of times. Something very, very simple. But for the defense, it looks very complicated. So we want to present these illusions, then run a regular play that we just want to execute right.’’
