Penn State To Pursue Greg Schiano

Sep 28, 2014 3:03 AM

Penn State will push to hire Greg Schiano if Bill O'Brien leaves to take the head coaching job of the Houston Texans as expected.

Schiano previously was at Rutgers before becoming head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2012. Schiano has a two-year record of 11-20 heading into Sunday's game.

"I want to stay here," Schiano reportedly told his bosses with the Buccaneers. "I want to be in the NFL. I want to be in Tampa."

Teams Will Search For Psychological Issues On Clowney

Jul 9, 2014 7:23 PM

Jadeveon Clowney is one of the best pure defensive prospects to come through the NFL Draft is several years.

But the question teams will have about him have more to do with his physiological makeup than physical.

"There are two ways of thinking about it," said the first college director. "You could say, now, he's just going to playing the game, he doesn't need to worry about not getting hurt and making it anymore, and he'll feel more comfortable now that it's football only and he won't be concerned about the draft and he can just play ball like he did his first two years. Or you could say, 'Now that he's getting paid, is he gonna coast?' That's the question you have to answer."

Munchak Hopes He Has Support Of Titans' Front Office

Sep 13, 2014 11:49 AM

Mike Munchak hopes he has the support of Tommy Smith, new president and CEO of the Tennessee Titans, along with general manager Ruston Webster.

The Titans have a 21-26 record under Munchak.

"I think there would be a discussion on 'Does (Webster) see it the same way I do?'" Munchak said this week, per The Tennessean. "I am sure not everything would be on the same page, but that's pretty much impossible on trying to figure out how to do it among coaches and players and other things you have to do. But I don't know why we'd be far off."

Munchak has been potentially linked to the Penn State job if Bill O'Brien takes an NFL job this offseason.

Sarkisian Wants Orgeron Back On USC Coaching Staff

Aug 7, 2014 8:35 PM

Ed Oregeron stepped down as interim head coach of USC following the school's decision to hire Steve Sarkisian on Dec. 2.

Orgeron was upset that he wasn't hired for the job.

Sarkisian would like Orgeron to part of USC's coaching staff.

"I am going to pursue Ed here one more time," Sarkisian told the "Trojan Brunch" show on ESPNLA 710. "I thought about him again after the game on the ride home. I think when emotions get settled down, and I know that was an emotional time for Ed and not getting named the head coach when he thought he should have been deservedly so, I would have felt the same way. When the emotions settle down, Ed's a great Trojan and he's meant a lot to the Trojan family and if we can have that opportunity for him to be part of this football program and be here with us, we'd love to have him."

Texas, Notre Dame, Alabama Rated As Most Valuable Football Programs

Dec 6, 2014 9:50 PM

The Texas Longhorns are the most valuable college football team at $139 million.

The Longhorns are without a coach following the resignation/firing of Mack Brown.

Texas is worth almost 20 percent more than any other team and are the only team to pass $100 million in revenue.

The team’s value is “built on the back of the nation’s most dedicated fan base, which has helped Texas lead all schools in merchandise sales and secure the most lucrative school-specific TV deal,” the report says.

Notre Dame is ranked second at $117 million, followed by Alabama at $110 million.

LSU, Michigan, Florida, Oklahoma, Georgia, Ohio State and Nebraska round out the top-10.

USC is ranked 13th while Oregon is at 19.

Jameis Winston Becomes Youngest Heisman Winner In History

Jul 6, 2014 10:05 PM

At 19 years and 342 days old, Jameis Winston became the youngest Heisman Trophy winner in history.

Winston is the second straight freshman to win the award after Johnny Manziel won last season.

"I cannot explain the feeling that I have inside right now," Winston said. "I'm so overwhelmed. It's awesome."

Winston ran away with the ballot, earning 2,205 points.

"I can't explain how truly intelligent he is," Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher said. "He always wanted to know why he had success or why he had failure so he could either repeat it or fix it."

Jadeveon Clowney Getting Labeled As 'Boom Or Bust' Prospect By Execs

Dec 15, 2014 9:32 AM

Jadeveon Clowney is referred to by scouts and high level executives as one of the best defensive prospects in recent seasons, but some question his mental toughness.

"He's a man amongst boys. But he's one of those guys that's a Pro Bowler, or he could be a big-time bust depending on what's on the inside," said an NFC personnel director. "That's what we'll all be digging into."

"I think there's flashes of brilliance and flashes of extreme inconsistency," said an AFC general manager. "I mean, it's a boom or bust thing. ... Does (Clowney) have all the talent in the world? Yeah. For people to get secure with him, it's going to come in the interviews, the one-on-ones with teams. They'll try to get him off the pre-scripted stuff from the agent. You have to be able to pass that smell test. Whoever drafts him is going to dig into every nook and cranny on him. And they're going to see what's in his soul."

Clowney has drawn comparisons to Julius Peppers and Jevon Kearse.
