Russell Wilson Suffers Sprained MCL, Status For Week 4 Uncertain

Sep 27, 2016 8:25 AM

Russell Wilson suffered an MCL spain in Sunday's win over the San Francisco 49ers, according to a source.

He was scheduled for an MRI on Sunday night.

"I don't think it's severe as it looked," Wilson said after the game. "I have good mobility. ... You always feel better when you win."

Wilson departed in the third quarter after linebacker Eli Harold took him down on a sack. He briefly returned, but was replaced by rookie Trevone Boykin soon after.

"He's in good spirits, just like you would think," Pete Carroll said. "He has no intention of thinking anything other than that he's playing."

The Seahawks will travel to New Jersey to play the New York Jets on Sunday.

Michael Bennett: White Player Needs To Join Protest

Sep 24, 2016 3:42 PM

A number of notable NFL players have joined Colin Kaepernick in kneeling or raising a fist for the national anthem to protest police brutality and racial inequality, but Michael Bennett believes at least one white player needs to join in the pregame displays for the protests to reach the next level in public discourse.

"You need a white guy to join the fight," Bennett said. "The white guy is super important to the fight. For people to really see social injustices, there must be someone from the other side of the race who recognizes the problem, because a lot of times if just one race says there’s a problem, nobody is realistic about it."

Though Bennett has not kneeled this season, his brother, Martellus Bennett, is one of the players who has raised a fist after the national anthem.

"If somebody like, say, Aaron Rodgers got behind us, I think it would touch home for a lot more people," Seahawks defensive end Cliff Avril told The Seattle Times. "At the same time, I see why they probably wouldn't, because they don't know what we’re going through. That's one of those situations where it's unfortunate."

Seahawks Lose Draft Pick For Violating Offseason Rules

Sep 19, 2016 4:42 PM

The Seattle Seahawks have been penalized for violating NFL-NFLPA rules that prohibit excessive contact in all offseason workouts.

The team will be fined $400,000 and will forfeit its first week of 2017 organized team activities (three OTA days). Seattle will also forfeit its fifth-round selection in the 2017 draft and Pete Carroll will be fined $200,000.

The NFL and NFLPA independently reviewed Seattle's June 6 on-field practice video and agreed the team violated the "no-live-contact" rule of the collective bargaining agreement.

Pete Carroll: Thomas Rawls Will Start In Week 2

Sep 15, 2016 8:41 AM

Thomas Rawls will be the starting running back for the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2, Pete Carroll says.

Christine Michael started last week as Rawls continued to recover from a broken ankle. He missed the entire offseason program and the first three preseason games after suffering the break last winter.

"He was our starter last year and C-Mike has done a great job for us," offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell said. "I don't think in any way do we need to minimize what he has done. He's done a phenomenal job, he'll still get opportunity to carry the ball. But Thomas has been our guy and you could see it in the game -- it was good to have him back. He's a physical runner, he's got the style that we look for, the tenacity that we look for and he kind of embodies who we want to be and he looked healthy and as long as he is healthy he is that guy."

Wilson had his foot stepped on by Ndamukong Suh in the Seattle Seahawks' comeback win.

The quarterback shrugged off the injury after the game saying: "I'll be all right. I'll be ready to roll (next week)."

Pete Carroll confirmed to KIRO-AM that Wilson is dealing with a sprained ankle, but told the station "he'll make it through."

Russell Wilson Unlikely To Miss Any Time With Sprained Ankle

Sep 12, 2016 1:35 PM

Russell Wilson is expected to play in Week 2 for the Seattle Seahawks against the Los Angeles Rams despite a sprained ankle.

"He's got a little bit of swelling, and he'll make it through," Carroll said on 710 ESPN Seattle. "How could you think otherwise? He's going to make it through it. We have to take into account that it's going to be hard. It's going to be hard for him to practice and stuff like that. So we'll have to do a few things here."

Wilson's backup is Trevone Boykin, an undrafted rookie out of TCU. The Seahawks could add a veteran quarterback.

Carroll said Wilson has a high pain tolerance.

"Unbelievable," Carroll said. "He doesn't care. He doesn't care what everyone feels like. He's going to go anyway. It doesn't matter what it is. He was banged up a couple years ago. You guys didn't even know it. His teammates didn't even know it. He's a stud.

"He liked that he got banged up. He liked that he had to try and finish this thing because he wanted to see if he could do it. He wanted to prove that he could do it."

Seahawks To Stand With Arms Interlocked During Anthem

Sep 10, 2016 5:59 PM

The Seattle Seahawks will stand for the national anthem before Week 1 with arms interlocked in a signal of unity.

Some Seahawks were previously considering kneeling during the anthem in support of Colin Kaepernick and issues facing minorities in the United States.

"We are a team comprised of individuals with diverse backgrounds," Doug Baldwin said. "And as a team, we have chosen to stand and interlock arms in unity. We honor those who have fought for the freedom we cherish. And we stand to ensure the riches of freedom and the security of justice for all people. Progress can and will be made only if we stand together."

Baldwin was asked Friday how proud he is of what the Seahawks have planned.

"I'm extremely proud," he said. "I'm excited. Extremely proud. Like I said, it makes me want to cry almost, just how our team has handled this and the discussions we've had and how we've come together. It's been absolutely amazing."

Added coach Pete Carroll: "These are young men that are trying to figure out the world themselves, too, and they want to try to make sense of how they can have impact and how they can affect others. I just couldn't be more proud of the way they've gone through it and really what has happened through the process. And then we'll see on the weekend that they're going to do a very, very good thing."
