Michael Bennett Unhappy With Contract But Won't Hold Out

May 18, 2016 8:00 PM

Michael Bennett is not happy with his current contract with the Seattle Seahawks but he has no plans on holding out.

"Why wouldn't I be at training camp?" Bennett said during an interview on 710 ESPN Seattle's Brock and Salk show. "Of course I'll be there. I'll see you there for sure."

Bennett has two seasons remaining on the four-year, $28.5 million deal he signed during the 2014 offseason.

Bennett thought about holding out last offseason, but he said his wife didn't let him.

"Any American wants to get paid more at their job," Bennett said. "I don't think there's anybody that goes to work and says: 'Hey, I'm happy with how much I'm getting paid, and I love it. Don't give me any more money.' So that's how I feel too.

"Of course I want to be in Seattle as long as possible. Everything about Seattle. ... I love the city. I love the team. I love my teammates, love what's going on. I love how we do things. I just love it here."

Michael Bennett Seeking Reworked Deal With Seahawks

May 12, 2016 6:57 PM

Michael Bennett is sitting out voluntary workouts hoping to get a reworked contract with the Seattle Seahawks.

Bennett signed a four-year, $32 million deal in 2014.

"I don't get the impression he's fine with his contract,'' John Schneider said, via SeattlePI.com. "But I think he recognizes it's a team sport, and I'm sure he sees a couple of his teammates who have one year left on their contracts. He has two left on his. We have a couple guys that are going to be unrestricted free agents at the end of the season that we'd like to try to take care of as well."

The Seahawks want to work on deals for Doug Baldwin, Luke Wilson and Steven Hauschka before moving on to players with multiple years remaining on their deals.

"It's always a rotating deal when you talk about everybody's contract issues and everything,'' Schneider said. "(Bennett) is not here right now, but there are a couple other players who aren't here. Cliff (Avril) is not here, Earl (Thomas) is on his honeymoon and stuff. Michael is a guy that takes very good care of his body. He's one hell of a football player."

Ricardo Lockette To Retire From NFL Due To Neck Injury

May 11, 2016 9:09 PM

Ricardo Lockette will retire from the NFL due to a neck injury he suffered last November against the Dallas Cowboys.

Lockette was in punt coverage when he was injured on a violent block from Cowboys safety Jeff Heath during a Week 8 win. Lockette remained down on the field for several minutes before being transported to a local hospital. He was diagnosed with ligament damage in his neck and underwent immediate surgery.

Lockette was never cleared to resume his career.

Lockette won a Super Bowl ring with Seattle during the 2013 season. He might be best remembered as the intended receiver on the Russell Wilson pass that was intercepted by Malcolm Butler to clinch a Patriots victory in Super Bowl XLIX.

Seahawks To Use Brandon Browner As Hybrid Safety

May 10, 2016 6:23 PM

Brandon Browner will play a hybrid safety position this season in his return with the Seattle Seahawks.

Hybrid players have become a trend in the NFL recently due to the success of Deone Bucannon and Mark Barron.

"We're going to play him at safety in base downs and then in nickel we are going to use him to match up at different spots playing inside," Pete Carroll said, via the Seattle Times. "So we may be able to develop a really unique role for him. We have seen him play, back to his New England days they used him quite a bit inside and he really matched up on tight ends and slot receivers and things like that that he matched up well, and we are going to see how that develops.''

Browner will aid in slowing down those bigger pass catchers.

"There is always some stuff we are developing and there are some good things we are going,'' Carroll said. "But you will see us be a little bit more matchup-oriented because of that, because of the guys that give us the chance to do that. We would always do it if we had the opportunity. That may mean there may be some more dime packages and things like that rather than nickel.''
