Six NFL Head Coaches Have Total Roster Control

Sep 30, 2014 7:20 PM

The NFL has six head coaches with absolute final say on player personnel decisions in Bill Belichick of the New England Patriots, Mike Shanahan of the Washington Redskins, Sean Payton of the New Orleans Saints, Pete Carroll of the Seattle Seahawks, Chip Kelly of the Philadelphia Eagles and Jeff Fisher of the St. Louis Rams.

Belichick and Payton are the longest tenured coaches of the group, while Kelly and Fisher were hired over the past two offseasons.

The NFL's other head coaches have varying degrees of control depending on how the power dynamic with the general manager is structured.

Seahawks' Preseason Win Streak By Design

Nov 22, 2014 10:27 PM

The Seattle Seahawks have won seven consecutive preseason games, dating back to the final game of the 2011 preseason.

The Seahawks are winning these games by design, something most other franchises do not place a priority upon.

“We take these games very seriously,” Carroll said of the preseason. “I do not blow off these games like it’s just an opportunity to look at the young guys. It’s way more than that for us. We’re trying to build a mentality around here of winning and understanding how you win. It's learning the lessons that it takes and the discipline it takes to always show your best every time you go out there.

“I don’t think you should ever play anything and just kind of show up. I think you should go for it every chance you get forever. You can’t afford to try and call on it when you need it. Every game is a huge game for us. That’s how we do it."

Seahawks Were Aware Of Percy Harvin's Potential Hip Issue

Oct 17, 2014 12:36 AM

The Seattle Seahawks were aware that Percy Harvin had a 40 percent change of needing hip surgery at some point in his career before they acquired him in a trade this offseason.

Harvin hadn't appeared on an injury report with a hip issue since Weeks 2 and 3 of the 2010 season.

Every NFL team that examined Harvin at the combine in 2009 knew he had impingement and tightness in both hips as well as weak abductor muscles.

"(We've) got to fix him up and take care of him," Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, told the NFL Network on Wednesday. "We have a big commitment to Percy. We want to make sure he's 100% and ready to go."

Harvin also missed practice time at the University of Florida in 2008 with a hip pointer.
