Voters in Santa Clara will decide on June 8th whether to lease property to the 49ers adjacent to California's Great America theme park to build a $937 million stadium to replace Candlestick Park.
Except for financing for the project, a yes vote would appear to all but guarantee the 49ers will move from San Francisco.
The team has expressed a desire to relocate to the site, spent about a million dollars in support of the proposal and received the backing of the NFL.
"We've been fully focused on Santa Clara," said Lisa Lang, the team's vice president of communications and government relations.
"This is our best chance of keeping the team in the Bay Area."

49ers Promote Baalke, To Go Without GM
The 49ers have promoted Trent Baalke to vice president of player personnel.
Baalke will have oversight of free agency, trades and re-signings as San Francisco will operate without a general manager.
Former GM Scot McCloughan parted ways with the 49ers in March.
Vernon Davis Isn't Worried About Possible Extension
49ers tight end Vernon Davis isn't worried about his negotiations with the team regarding a contract extension.
San Francisco gave linebacker Patrick Willis a hefty extension earlier this offseason.
"I'm not in a rush to do anything," Davis said Monday after the first of four optional practices this week.
"That'd be good, when I eventually sign my extension. It's not something that's heavy on my mind. I'm not really thinking about it at the moment. I like to let things come to me. He's a defensive guy, I'm an offensive guy. I didn't really try to compare him to me."
New 49ers Stadium In Santa Clara Clears Hurdle
The Santa Clara City Council voted yes on two crucial developments Tuesday night, giving the nod to a hotel tax if a proposed 49ers stadium is built and on the development of a massive new Yahoo complex.
In a 5-2 vote, the council agreed to create a tax district of eight hotels where guests would pay an additional 2 percent tax on the cost of the room, with the extra money going to help pay for the 68,500-seat stadium. That's on top of the current transient occupancy tax of 9.5 percent already levied to guests of any hotel in the city.
Council members Will Kennedy and Jamie McLeod voted no. They have been vocal about their concerns regarding public funding going to pay for a new $937 million stadium.
49ers Give Away Numbers Of CBs Bly, Harris
The 49ers officially announced the signing of cornerback Will James to a one-year deal.
James was given No. 31, the number worn by Dre' Bly wore last season for the 49ers.
Meanwhile, undrafted rookie cornerback Patrick Stoudamire has been given Walt Harris' No. 27.
Of course, the fact that their numbers have been usurped isn't a sure sign that Bly and Harris, both of whom are free agents, will never be 49ers again.
49ers, Davis Working On Extension
The 49ers are working on a contract extension for tight end Vernon Davis, according to sources.
San Francisco has already given linebacker Patrick Willis a lucrative extension this offseason.
Two sources have told CSN Bay Area of the team's desire to lock up Davis, who had a breakout season in 2009.
The tight end is asking for a five-year, $40 million contract with $25 million in guaranteed money.
Davis Could Be Next In Line For Raise
San Francisco tight end Vernon Davis could be next in line for a new contract.
The 49ers gave linebacker Patrick Willis a contract extension on Tuesday.
"And next up on a big payday for the 49ers - TE Vernon Davis," Adam Schefter of ESPN.com wrote on his Twitter page.
Davis had 78 receptions for 965 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2009.
49ers Extend Willis Through 2016
Linebacker Patrick Willis and the 49ers agreed to a five-year contract extension Tuesday that takes him through the 2016 season, according to an Associated Press report.
This is another offseason splash by new personnel chief Trent Baalke, who took charge after GM Scot McCloughan?s abrupt departure in March.
49ers Could Be Interested In Adalius Thomas
Mike Singletary expressed the possibility that the 49ers might be interested in Adalius Thomas.
"There could be, but right now I think we have our plate full. I know we were really interested in him about three, four years ago and he made the decision to go to New England. I think he's a quality player and he wants to play a couple more years. We'll just have to see how it all shakes out."
