Gates' Contract Good For Davis

Jul 12, 2014 8:24 AM

Vernon Davis is seeking a five-year, $40 million contract from the 49ers. Rival tight end Antonio Gates became the richest tight end in NFL history by signing a new deal with the Chargers on Wednesday, which helps the case of Davis. Chronicle Live host Greg Papa asked Davis on Tuesday whether he expects to have a contract extension agreed upon before the start of the season. "I'm sure it'll get done, but I can't go into camp worrying about it," Davis said. "I have to move on and try to get better."

49ers' Davis Still First In Line For Extension

Oct 29, 2014 1:35 AM

The 49ers have a number of players in line for possible contract extensions and tight end Vernon Davis appears to be the top candidate. "Davis is seeking to become the highest-paid tight end in the league at $8 million per season, NFL sources say. It's doubtful the 49ers will go that high," Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area writes. "The 49ers have already given [linebacker Patrick] Willis a five-year, $50 million extension this offseason. With no collective bargaining agreement in place, it's a delicate situation for teams to sign players to long-term deals."

McCloughan Has Gotten Life Back

Sep 30, 2014 8:09 PM

Scot McCloughan is no longer with the 49ers, but he has gotten his life back by reducing his workload. He is now working for the Seahawks. ?I understand now that the job can?t consume your life,?? the 39-year-old said last week. ?I?m still young, and I still love football. But it was consuming my life, and it?s just not as important as your health or taking care of your family.?? He acknowledges now, ?I got spread so thin, I could never catch up.?? ?I got almost numb,?? he added. ?And I had no one to blame but myself. I was losing my family, and I sat back and had to think about that. As we know in this business, jobs come and go. Family doesn?t. Those three kids, you?ve got a chance to impact their lives, and I wanted to be a part of that.??
