Before Denver's videotaping incident became public Saturday, owner Pat Bowlen had personally called San Francisco owner John York to apologize for his team's actions, according to a source. In addition, each of the top layers of the Broncos organization called his matching 49ers colleague to apologize. The NFL fined the Broncos and McDaniels $50,000 each because the team's video operations director filmed a 49ers practice in London last month.

The 49ers have struggled to make adjustments on offense throughout the 2010 season. One veteran player said the team's offense "doesn't make adjustments like other teams." One former player said it looks as if "there's no backup plan." "You could say they don't make the halftime adjustments, they don't come emotionally charged," offensive coordinator Mike Johnson said. "You could put a lot of different things into that. Scoring more points in the third quarter is definitely something that we would like to do."

49ers coach Mike Singletary has accepted all the blame for the team's 21-0 loss to the Buccaneers. He also took blame for San Francisco's 3-7 season. "Am I doing a good job? Obviously, at 3-7, no," Singletary said. "I wouldn't even dare to say I'm doing a good job. But it's not over yet."

49ers linebacker Patrick Willis took a subtle jab at coach Mike Singletary following the team's 21-0 loss to the Buccaneers on Sunday. It was San Francisco's first shutout loss at home in 33 years and dropped them to 3-7. "We can sit back after losing today and talk about all this talent," Willis said. "But at the end of the day, it's what you do on Sunday. It's about who's ready to play on Sunday. And today, they were more ready to play than we were."

The 49ers are sticking with Troy Smith as their starting quarterback. San Francisco is 2-0 with the former Heisman winner as their starter. Alex Smith is healthy enough to play this coming Sunday after separating his left shoulder Oct. 24. "He's had a big part in us winning these last two games, and you want to keep that going and see how much is there," coach Mike Singletary said. "Our team understands that I'm going to go with the guy that is winning right now, the guy that has the hot hand and has made the difference in the past two weeks."

The 49ers have decided to start quarterback Troy Smith against the Rams this Sunday. Smith, who led San Francisco to a win in Week 8, took most of the first-team snaps on Friday. Alex Smith is recovering from a left shoulder injury and has been ruled out for the game against St. Louis.

Michael Lewis, who walked away from the 49ers in early October, has been helping the Rams prepare for this Sunday's game against his former team. "Of course, because I was the starting strong safety there," Lewis said when asked if he has offered insight to his new teamamtes. "I pretty much know the defense. We've talked." Lewis lost his starting job to Taylor Mays. "It's not a personnel vendetta, going out there trying to hurt somebody, or doing something like that," Lewis said when asked about playing his old team. "If I'm 'up,' I'm out there trying to help this team win a game."

Jerry Rice was named the greatest player in NFL history on Thursday, according to an NFL Network special. Rice finished ahead of Jim Brown and Lawrence Taylor. The voting was conducted by a panel of former football coaches and executives as well as writers and broadcasters convened by NFL Films President Steve Sabol. Joe Montana, Walter Payton, Johnny Unitas, Reggie White, Peyton Manning, Don Hutson and Dick Butkus comprised the remainder of the top-10.
