McNabb Doesn't Interest San Francisco
The 49ers aren't showing interest in Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
"It's still hard for me to understand why San Francisco wouldn't ship one of its draft picks -- maybe the second -- to Philadelphia for Donovan McNabb," Schefter wrote.
"To the best of my knowledge, unless people are bluffing, the 49ers are not interested in trading for McNabb. But put McNabb on the 49ers' roster and they become instant favorites to win the NFC West and as formidable as anyone in the NFC. Would really love to see that move, but that's not going to happen."
The Raiders have emerged as the top suitor for McNabb.
49ers Sticking With Alex Smith
The 49ers are sticking with quarterback Alex Smith.
Some believed that Smith would fall out of favor with general manager Scot McCloughan out of town.
Trent Baalke endorsed Smith as the starter and indicated no desire to trade for Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb.
"Right now we're very comfortable with where we're at, and that's where we're going to leave it," Baalke said Friday of the quarterback position.

San Francisco team president Jed York broke his silence amid rumors by announcing a "mutual parting" with the team's top personnel man since 2005.

The San Jose Mercury News writes that there may be more support for a change at quarterback with McCloughan no longer standing in the way.

San Francisco's director of player personnel Trent Baalke will lead the 49ers into a critical draft in which the team is scheduled to have the 13th and 17th overall picks, according to a league source.
Baalke has a strong reputation around the league and many expect that San Francisco will be able to march on successfully. He is recognized as a strong and capable talent evaluator.
The 49ers and Scot McCloughan must also figure out a resolution as to their current situation before any other issues can be addressed.
Sources said McCloughan has been dealing with personal issues and the 49ers want him to be able to concentrate on those indefinitely.
