San Francisco quarterback Alex Smith will head to London to provide commentary for the BBC of the Super Bowl. Smith's appearance comes in advance of the 49ers' game against the Denver Broncos at Wembley Stadium on Oct. 31. "I think it will be a fun opportunity to do a little broadcasting work for the Super Bowl, while also having a chance to build anticipation for our game,'' Smith said in a prepared statement. "I know our team is excited for the opportunity to play in front of our fans overseas."

49ers Interested In Sharing Stadium With Raiders

Jun 13, 2014 2:14 AM

49ers president Jed York was asked about the possibility of sharing a stadium with the Oakland Raiders in the Bay Area during an interview with KNBR. "Sharing a stadium at a very high level makes a lot of sense," said York. "We've carved out in our deal that we can potentially have two stadiums in Santa Clara." York continued and talked about the possibility of building a stadium where the Oakland Coliseum currently exists if the 49ers are unable to successfully build their stadium in Santa Clara. "If we could do a joint stadium in Oakland as an alternative, it is something that I would at least explore." The Giants and Jets have successfully shared a stadium for several decades and have built a new stadium together in New Jersey.

Could 49ers Make Offer For McNabb?

Jul 2, 2014 3:35 PM

Tim Kawakami of the San Francisco Chronicle believes that the 49ers should offer the Eagles a second-round pick for quarterback Donovan McNabb. "If you're the 49ers, would you call up the Eagles in March and check to see if you can pry loose Donovan McNabb for a 2010 second-round pick? No way I'd give up either of their No. 1s, but for a No. 2 ... Worth a thought, if Philly's interested," Kawakami wrote. McNabb's contract expires after the 2010 season, so he'll need an extension, which could lessen his trade value.

Disputing Tebow To San Francisco Talk

Oct 16, 2014 12:55 PM

In his latest Monday Morning Quarterback column, SI's Peter King speculates that the 49ers could draft Tim Tebow. Here's what King writes: "I think, if I had to guess right now, I'd say the best shot for Tim Tebow on draft day is San Francisco, at number 13. No proof. No solid evidence. Just this: The Niners gave a tepid endorsement to Alex Smith as their quarterback of 2010 after the season; and Mike Singletary didn't draft him; and Singletary is going to fall in love with Tebow once he meets him after the season; and Tebow is the kind of winner that Singletary has preached he wants since he took the job from Mike Nolan in mid-2008. After Singletary meets Tebow at the Scouting Combine, this is my prediction of his reaction: He'll turn to GM Scot McCloughan and say, "That's my guy. We've got to have him." The Sacramento Bee's Matt Barrows disputes the notion, primarily because of three reasons: 1. Alex Smith has taken a long time to develop coming from Urban Meyer's system. 2. The 49ers have a promising long-term project in Nate Davis. 3. San Francisco is a win-now mode, particularly with the Rams and Seahawks rebuilding, coupled with the possible retirement of Kurt Warner.
