Favre Will Start Against 49ers

Oct 3, 2014 5:39 AM

Vikings quarterback Brett Favre will start against the 49ers on Sunday night just a few days after deciding to rejoin the team. Coach Brad Childress said that Favre will likely play just a series or two. Childress said ideally the first series would go 10 plays for Favre because, "that's what he needs right now and all he's ready for right now." "I think he's doing a good job of rounding into," form, Childress said. "He has been throwing the football, there is no question about that. Just conditioning his legs. ... He's versed in our system and our calls."

Westbrook Won't Immediately Backup Gore

Sep 6, 2014 5:35 AM

The 49ers aren't simply going to hand the No. 2 running back job to Brian Westbrook. San Francisco signed Westbrook earlier this week to help spell starter Frank Gore. Rookie Anthony Dixon is going to get a chance to be the team's top reserve despite Westbrook's advantage in the experience department. "I like the way he ran with the football and his physicality," offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye said of Dixon. "We had some concerns about his ability to play without the ball. He demonstrated otherwise. His performance in his first opportunity, in his first year, was pretty good."
