Deshaun Watson met with new Houston Texans coach David Culley last Friday, according to sources, and informed Culley that he still has no intention of playing for the franchise.

Upset over the way the organization has operated in recent years, Watson has asked the Texans to trade him and has had very little contact with the team since the season ended.

Thus far, the Texans have told interested teams that they don't intend to trade Watson, who just last summer signed a four-year, $156 million contract extension that runs through 2025.

If the Houston Texans decide to trade Deshaun Watson, the Denver Broncos will pursue the quarterback.

Denver has been searching for a franchise quarterback ever since Peyton Manning retired.

The Houston Texans have granted the request of J.J. Watt to release him.

"I have sat down with the McNair family and I have asked them for my release and we have mutually agreed to part ways at this time," Watt said in a video posted to Twitter. "I came here 10 years ago as a kid from Wisconsin who'd never really been to Texas before. And now I can't imagine my life without Texas in it. The way that you guys have treated me, besides draft night. I mean, you guys booed me on draft night. But every day after that, you treated me like family. And I truly feel like you're my family.

"... I'm excited and looking forward to a new opportunity, and I've been working extremely hard. But at the same time, it is always tough to move on. And I just want you guys to know that I love you. I appreciate you. I appreciate the McNair family for drafting me and giving me my first opportunity in the NFL."

Jamey Rootes has resigned as president of the Houston Texans. 

Rootes oversaw the business and administrative side of the organization that became one of the most successful in professional sports, selling out every game at NRG Stadium from 2002 through 2019 before COVID-19 forced limited ticket sales last season.

“I think the organization is in a great place from a business perspective,” Rootes said Wednesday morning. “We’ve got a great leadership team. I thought the time was right for me to do something different.

“I’m young enough to find a new opportunity to create something new.”

The Houston Texans insist in conversations with other teams they won't trade Deshaun Watson.

Watson is seeking a trade from the Texans.

Watson signed a four-year, $156 million contract extension in September and is under contract through the 2025 season. Watson has a no-trade clause. 

The trade request comes after Watson was reportedly unhappy with the process used by the team to hire Nick Caserio in early January.
