Commanders Have Rebuffed Trade Offers For DT Daron Payne

Jun 30, 2022 7:41 AM

Daron Payne is heading into the final year of his rookie contract and could hit free agency next year.

Ron Rivera said earlier this offseason that the Washington Commanders had "tremendous interest" in keeping both Terry McLaurin and Payne for the foreseeable future.

McLaurin received a lucrative contract extension this week.

Washington has received trade calls about Payne, but thus far they've rebuffed offers for the defensive tackle, according to a report.

He was the No. 13 pick in the 2018 draft.

Spokesperson: Dan Snyder 'Has Not Refused To Appear' Before Congress

Jun 28, 2022 9:07 AM

Daniel Snyder is taking issue with the claim that he has refused to appear before the U.S. House Oversight & Reform Committee for a deposition.

A spokesperson for the Washington Commanders owner issued a statement on Monday night.

"Mr. Snyder has not refused to appear for a deposition," the statement explains. "The Committee offered only one date — June 30 — and Mr. Snyder's attorney is out of the country and unavailable on that date. Mr. Snyder's lawyer has provided alternative dates to the Committee and looks forward to finding a path forward for Mr. Snyder's further cooperation and to address remaining due process concerns."

Roger Goodell Says He Has No Authority To Remove Daniel Snyder

Jun 23, 2022 8:08 AM

Roger Goodell says he has no authority to remove Daniel Snyder as owner of the Washington Commanders amid ongoing scrutiny into the organization's workplace culture and accusations from women employees of pervasive sexual harassment.

Goodell testified Wednesday before members of Congress at a hearing by the House Committee on Oversight and Reform.

An NFL owner can be removed only by a three-quarters (so, 24 out of 32) majority vote of fellow owners, although Goodell does have the ability to officially recommend such a vote.

Daniel Snyder Again Declines To Testify In House Probe

Jun 21, 2022 8:38 AM

The attorney for Daniel Snyder reiterated Monday that the Washington Commanders owner would not testify before Congress on June 22, despite a request from the committee to reconsider.

Attorney Karen Patton Seymour declined the initial invitation from the House Oversight Committee investigating the Commanders' alleged "toxic workplace culture," saying that Snyder had a "longstanding Commanders-related business conflict" and is out of the country at the end of June.

On Friday, chairwoman Carolyn Maloney, D-N.Y., had sent Snyder's attorney a six-page letter stating Snyder could testify virtually at the June 22 hearing, as Roger Goodell is expected to do.

In July 2021, the NFL fined the Commanders $10 million after its investigation into the franchise's workplace culture under Snyder's ownership. Congress began its investigation shortly after, in October, and is also investigating allegations by a former employee who said she was sexually harassed by Snyder in 2019.

Jun 20, 2022 7:56 AM

The NFL has fined Ron Rivera $100,000 and stripped the Washington Commanders of two OTA practices in 2023 for conducting excessive contact in spring drills.

The NFL Players Association reviewed practice video on June 1 and 8 and informed the NFL Management Council that it felt those practices violated the collective bargaining agreement's "prohibition against live contact."

The council, after reviewing the practices, agreed.

Ron Rivera: Commanders Not Trading Terry McLaurin

Jun 16, 2022 8:47 AM

Ron Rivera is expressing optimism that a deal will get done between the Washington Commanders and Terry McLaurin.

The wide receiver missed the first two days of Washington's mandatory minicamp as he holds out looking for a new contract.

Rivera said the Commanders have been talking to McLaurin's representatives for the past week and that "hopefully it'll be taken care of in a matter of time. How much time? I don't know. But it is never contentious, I can promise you that much. We're feeling pretty good and pretty confident that at some point this will get done."

That's why, Rivera said, "We're not trading Terry ... We believe in who Terry is for us and what he can bring to the table."

Jack Del Rio Apologizes For Calling January 6 'Dustup At The Capitol'

Jun 9, 2022 8:47 AM

During a Wednesday press conference, Washington Commanders defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio referred to the January 6 insurrection as a "dustup at the Capitol."

Later on, he expressed remorse for downplaying the incident.

"I made comments earlier today in referencing the attack that took place on the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021," Del Rio tweeted.

"Referencing that situation as a dustup was irresponsible and negligent and I am sorry. I stand by my comments condemning violence in communities across the country. I say that while also expressing my support as an American citizen for peaceful protest in our country. I have fully supported all peaceful protests in America. I love, respect, and support all my fellow coaches, payers, and staff that I work with and respect their views and opinions."
