Jeff Bezos is believed to be the leading candidate to purchase the Washington Commanders, according to a report from the Washington Post. The Post is owned by Bezos.

The story indicates other potential buyers are preparing to be the fallback option in case Bezos bows out or sets a hard ceiling for what he is prepared to pay for the franchise. 

“Yes, I’ve heard that buzz,” Bezos said this week on CNN when asked about potentially buying the team.

“I do like football,” his girlfriend, Lauren Sanchez, interjected. “I’m just going to throw that out there for everyone.”

“There’s not much I can say about that right now,” Bezos said. “But she does like football.”

Dan Snyder reportedly wants $7 billion for the team and is not necessarily committed to selling the team.

The Washington Commanders didn't have to make a quarterback decision after all. With Carson Wentz still not practicing, Taylor Heinicke will remain the starter.

Washington coach Ron Rivera said while Wentz was cleared to start throwing, he has not yet been designated to return to practice.

Rivera said he's still not sure if Carson Wentz will be activated off injured reserve this week after missing the last four games with a fractured right ring finger. It was originally thought that the injury would sideline him for four weeks. If that's the case, then Wentz could be activated this week.

Boston Red Sox owner John Henry could be a bidder for the Washington Commanders, according to a report.

Henry recently commenced the process of selling Liverpool of the Premier League. The transaction is expected to generate $4 billion to $5 billion.

Matthew McConaughey will join the Jeff Bezos/Jay-Z group that hopes to purchase the Washington Commanders, according to a report.

An unnamed source told the New York Post that "Matthew has always been a huge fan and his ties with the team go way back," and that "he's good pals with Dan Snyder."

McConaughey might be key to a Bezos/Jay-Z bid as reports have also stated that Snyder may not want to sell the team to the Amazon co-founder.

Pressure from other owners forced Daniel Snyder into exploring the sale of the Washington Commanders this week, according to a report.

Multiple owners "have confronted" Snyder privately about moving on, while even more have told Roger Goodell "that something must give."

Snyder bought the franchise for $750 million in 1999 and the team is expected to sell for more than $5 billion if he truly decides to sell.

The U.S. attorney's office in the Eastern District of Virginia has opened a criminal investigation into allegations that the Washington Commanders engaged in financial improprieties, according to two sources.

Prosecutors are focused on several areas. The inquiry was triggered by a letter the House Committee on Oversight and Reform sent to the Federal Trade Commission in April that alleged deceptive business practices.

Asked Wednesday whether the league is aware of the federal criminal investigation, NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy said: "We will decline comment."

Dan Snyder has hired Bank of America to sell the Washington Commanders. 

According to a person familiar with the process, Snyder already has at least four calls from groups interested in buying the team.

Im March of 2021 Snyder and his family got 100% control of the Commanders when he bought out his minority partners. 

The Commanders are working on building a new stadium.
