The New York Jets have acquired pass rusher Shaq Lawson in a trade with the Houston Texans, according to sources.

New York is sending a 2022 sixth-round pick to Houston.

The move comes after the Jets lost Carl Lawson to a season-ending ruptured Achilles.

Vinny Curry was diagnosed last month with a rare blood disorder that required the removal of his spleen and triggered complications that will cause him to miss the entire season, he revealed in a statement through the New York Jets.

The defensive end was initially projected to return in the middle of September. But he explained that blood clots formed and forced him to go on blood thinners. That, he said, prevented him from having physical contact for three to six months.

"While I am incredibly disappointed that I will not be able to play with my teammates this year, I am thankful that the doctors identified my condition in time," Curry said. "They have informed me that I am expected to make a full recovery and return to the field next season.

"I am grateful to all those who have reached out to me on the phone, through social media and in person. I can promise them all that I will be back stronger and more determined than ever."

The New York Jets have lost Carl Lawson for the 2021 season after the defensive end suffered a ruptured Achilles during Thursday's joint practice with the Green Bay Packers.

Lawson signed with the Jets in free agency this past offseason.
