Saints Acquire Eli Apple From Giants For 4th Rounder

Oct 23, 2018 1:34 PM

The New York Giants have agreed to trade Eli Apple to the New Orleans Saints for a fourth round pick in 2019 and a seventh rounder in 2020.

Apple was a first round pick at cornerback in 2016 out of Ohio State.

Apple was suspended by the Giants for the final game of the 2017 season for "a pattern of behavior that is conduct detrimental to the team," capping off a tumultuous season that included multiple benchings and some troubling incidents with teammates, coaches and executives while he was dealing with family issues.

Annie Apple, Eli's mother, on Tuesday thanked the Giants on Twitter for giving "a little football nerd opportunity to live his dream."

Drew Brees Becomes NFL's All-Time Passing Leader

Oct 9, 2018 10:52 AM

Drew Brees broke Peyton Manning's all-time passing mark of 71,940 yards in the second quarter of the New Orleans Saints' 43-19 win over the Washington Redskins on Monday night.

Brees set the record on a 62-yard touchdown pass to Tre'Quan Smith.

He needed 201 yards to surpass Manning's mark. He finished the game completing 26 of 29 passes for 363 yards and three touchdowns. He currently has 72,103 career passing yards.

"There's just so many people who are responsible for that," Brees, 39, said after the game. "Two of the people who are most responsible for my football career early on in my life are up in heaven. My mom and my grandfather. There were a lot of people I wanted to prove right tonight and make proud, and none more so than them. I know they're watching down on me at all times and my kids.

"Just so grateful, just so grateful for the opportunity to play this game and to play for so long," Brees continued. "To have teammates that I have, the New Orleans Saints organization, this great city and this great fan base, it's just truly been a dream come true. I'll be able to reflect on it maybe a little bit more when my career is done -- I still feel like there's work to be done -- but I'm just really, really proud and very grateful."

Drew Brees Isn't Focused On Passing Yardage Record

Oct 5, 2018 8:12 AM

Drew Brees isn't ready to reflect on his career as he approaches the NFL's all-time passing yardage mark.

Brees enters Monday night's game against the Washington Redskins just 201 yards shy of the record, currently held by Peyton Manning.

"It speaks to the longevity. And it says a lot about the teams I've been on, the coaches, the teammates, the players. Everyone has a hand in this, and I hope they know that," said Brees, who told one of his classic stories about how he remembers playing in Miami during the preseason as a rookie in 2001 and looking up at all of Dan Marino's numbers on the ring of honor and marveling at them.

"At the time I was just hoping to solidify the backup position, and eventually maybe one day become a starter," he said. "So to be sitting here 18 years later in striking distance ... it's just kind of mind-boggling."
