Dolphins Acquire Stephone Anthony From Saints

Sep 19, 2017 8:00 PM

The Miami Dolphins acquired linebacker Stephone Anthony from the New Orleans Saints for a fifth round draft pick in 2018.

A 2015 first-round pick by New Orleans, Anthony has yet to play a down this season after starting 19 games over the past two seasons.

The Saints overhauled their linebacker corps this offseason.

The Dolphins needed more depth at linebacker due to the indefinite suspension of Lawrence Timmons.

Saints Are 1-11 In September Since 2014

Sep 18, 2017 1:54 PM

The New Orleans Saints are 0-2 for the fourth straight season and are just 1-11 in the month of September since the start of the 2014 season.

"It puts you in a little bit of a hole, but again we can't cry over spilled milk here," Drew Brees said. "We have to press on, and we've got to find a way to get a win."

The Saints' struggles early on come after they opened the 2013 season at 4-0.

New Orleans has trailed by double digits for the entire second half of both games so far.

"I'm not concerned," Brees said. "Listen, it's only a matter of time. I felt like there were some things that came together this week that weren't there last week, or that were better. It just hasn't been good enough yet."

The Saints will play the Carolina Panthers in Week 3.

Sean Payton, Adrian Peterson Deny Heated Exchange

Sep 12, 2017 11:32 AM

Television cameras appeared to catch Adrian Peterson yelling at Sean Payton during Monday night's loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

After the game Payton said there was nothing to the exchange and suggested to reporters he didn't know what they were asking about.

"We weren't in any heated exchange," Payton said. "No. Listen, I'd tell you if we were in a heated exchange, so why don't you ask him? He was into it, we were all into it, there was none that I can recall. And I'm being honest."

Peterson also denied having any type of run-in with Payton, saying that although he would have liked to play more than nine snaps, there was no issue between the two of them.

"Just communicating with him," Peterson said. "Obviously, the competitor I am, I want to be in every snap. But I don't make those calls."

Saints Cannot Use Franchise Tag On Drew Brees In 2018

Sep 10, 2017 9:41 AM

The New Orleans Saints will be unable to use the franchise tag on Drew Brees this offseason due to a little-known clause in his deal.

Brees could still re-sign with New Orleans but they cannot prevent him from leaving by using the franchise tag.

"Right now [no discussions are taking place]. I don't expect them to. I don't really desire them to," Brees said in July. "I just want to play football and help this team win."

Brees and the Saints worked out a one-year, $24.25 million extension just a few days before the regular-season opener in 2016 to avoid having him enter a walk year.
