Saints Were Prepared To Trade Up For Marshon Lattimore

Apr 28, 2017 8:27 AM

The New Orleans Saints considered trading up in the first round on Thursday night, but didn't have to when Marshon Lattimore was available at No. 11.

The Saints have been looking at cornerback help all offseason and sat through a run of offensive skill players leading up to their pick.

"Just through a lot of the different scenarios, he was one of the players that we felt would be difficult maybe to anticipate him being there, but things happen," Sean Payton said.

Sean Payton: Adrian Peterson Will 'Complement' Mark Ingram

Apr 26, 2017 8:14 AM

Sean Payton doesn't foresee any issues figuring out how to use both Adrian Peterson and Mark Ingram at running back.

The New Orleans Saints agreed to a two-year deal with Peterson on Tuesday.

"I think the role will be very clear and defined," Payton said. "He's someone that certainly will complement Mark. Those guys are different in some ways and yet we feel like we've added another quality player."

For his part, Ingram is saying all the right things about the addition of Peterson.

"I am all about winning, so if that's what helps us win -- I am all for it," Ingram said on a conference call. "Obviously (Peterson) is a first-ballot Hall of Famer. I can learn a lot from him."

Adrian Peterson, Saints Finalize Two-Year Deal

Apr 26, 2017 8:20 AM

The New Orleans Saints have finalized a two-year, $7 million deal with Adrian Peterson.

The deal includes $3.5 million guaranteed in 2017.

"I am excited to be joining the New Orleans Saints," Peterson said in a statement to ESPN. "I'm really looking forward to this opportunity. Most importantly, I chose this team because it just felt right within my spirit. Additionally, my wife and family added their confirmation with the same feelings. On offense, it goes without saying that the Saints are really solid behind Drew Brees. I feel like my skill set can make them even more dominant as a unit.

"They have a great offensive line, which is something that stood out to me as well. I could tell from talking to head coach Sean Payton over the last two weeks that he did his due diligence in evaluating how I could contribute. I also did a lot of homework on the defense as well. While I know that injuries have played a role in performance, I also see areas of potential with a lot of younger guys having the ability to step up. Lastly, it goes without saying that the Saints have an amazing fan base and I look forward to making them proud and creating everlasting memories."
