Kirk Cousins Doesn't Expect To Talk Contract With Vikings Until 2024

Jun 14, 2023 5:44 PM

Kirk Cousins does not anticipate picking up contract talks with the Minnesota Vikings until next offseason.

"I think we'll probably talk about the contract next March," Cousins said on the final day of the Vikings' mandatory minicamp. "Until then, [we'll] just focus on this season and the job to do right now."

Cousins is earning $30 million this season and the deal is set to expire in March 2024.

Neither side has indicated any acrimony in the discussions, but ultimately they decided to do a simple restructure of his deal this spring rather than extend it.

Justin Jefferson Says He'll Show Up For Camp, Even Without New Deal

Jun 14, 2023 8:59 AM

Justin Jefferson says he'll report to training camp with the Minnesota Vikings even if he doesn't receive a new contract by then.

The wide receiver stayed away from the team during the voluntary portion of the offseason program.

Whether he practices pending the signing of a new contract is a different issue. He might "hold in" -- report but refrain from stepping on the field until he gets the contract he has earned.

Dalvin Cook In No Rush To Sign, Wants To Be Valued

Jun 14, 2023 8:52 AM

Dalvin Cook says he's in no rush to sign with a new team after being released by the Minnesota Vikings last week.

While appearing on "The Rich Eisen Show," Cook said he will prioritize "fit for me and my family" and an organization that "values" him when he does pick a new team.

Cook, who was released on Friday, said it's been "crazy" when asked if people around the league had already reached out to him.

"I play Madden a lot, and I do create a GM in Madden with my son, so we've been playing and stuff like that. Going through this process in real life it kind of feels like a creative game to me," he said. "It's funny, man. It's an exciting step in my life and a lot of people have reached out to me this past week. Just to reach out and see what I was thinking but there's a lot of people reaching out."

Vikings' Danielle Hunter Planning To Skip Minicamp

Jun 13, 2023 8:09 AM

Danielle Hunter is planning to hold out from the Minnesota Vikings' mandatory minicamp this week as questions persist about his future with the team, a source has confirmed.

Hunter, 28, is entering the final year of a contract he originally signed in 2018.

A renegotiation last year moved a portion of his future compensation up to 2022, leaving him with a deal that calls for him to earn a base salary of $4.9 million in 2023 with weekly roster bonuses that could total $500,000.

Skipping mandatory minicamp will subject him to mandatory fines of $16,459 for the first day and $32,920 for the second.

The Minnesota Vikings are planning to release Dalvin Cook on Friday, according to a source.

Minnesota will try to trade Cook one more time on Thursday before the release.
