The Detroit Lions have agreed to trade Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams for Jared Goff and a multitude of draft picks.

The Rams will send a third round pick in 2021, a first round pick in 2022 and a first round pick in 2023 in addition to Goff.

The move is the first big one made by Brad Holmes since being hired by the Lions.

Stafford went to Lions team president Rod Wood soon after the season concluded and mentioned a trade might be best for both parties.

The Los Angeles Rams have interest in trading for Matthew Stafford.

The issue complicating a trade for the Rams is whether they can get off the long-term contract of Jared Goff.

The Detroit Lions are working with Stafford on finding a trade this offseason.

The Los Angeles Rams expect to have an open competition at quarterback heading into the 2021 season if Jared Goff isn't traded, according to a report.

John Wolford impressed in last summer's camp and in the limited game action he saw at the end of the season.

Goff is due $27.5 million in guaranteed salary in 2021 and carries a cap number just shy of $35 million.

The Rams would save $12.75 million of that cap number by trading him anytime between now and June 1, but would still have to carry the other $22.2 million in dead cap.

Despite reaching the divisional round of the playoffs, the Los Angeles Rams may be at a crossroads.

Les Snead was vague when discussing Jared Goff and the quarterback position on Tuesday.

"Not going to get into specifics on those," Snead said when asked if Goff would be the Rams' quarterback in 2021. "What I can say is Jared Goff is a Ram in this moment and I said it's way too early to speculate. The future, that's a beautiful mystery."

Goff is under contract through the 2024 season with a cap hit of more than $30 million in three of the next four years.

The Seattle Seahawks are planning to hire Shane Waldron as offensive coordinator, according to a source.

Waldron is currently the passing game coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams. He has not called plays in any of his seven seasons as an assistant in the NFL.

The Los Angeles Rams have hired Raheem Morris as their new defensive coordinator. 

Morris had worked with the Atlanta Falcons since 2015 and finished the 2020 season as their interim head coach.

Morris was previously a head coach from 2009 until 2011 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Jared Goff will start for the Los Angeles Rams against the Green Bay Packers this weekend.

John Wolford hasn't practiced this week after suffering a neck injury in last Saturday's playoff win over the Seattle Seahawks. Sean McVay announced Thursday that Wolford wouldn't play in the divisional round.

Blake Bortles will serve as Goff's backup.

The Detroit Lions have agreed to hire Brad Holmes as general manager.

Holmes was previously director of college scouting for the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams will receive two third round compensatory draft picks as part of the NFL's new hiring initiatives. 

The Los Angeles Chargers have emerged with interest in hiring Urban Meyer.

Meyer is considered a strong candidate to become head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Meyer has connections to the Jacksonville area from his time as head coach at the University of Florida. Meyer has never coached in the NFL.

Jared Goff spoke with reporters on Thursday for the first time since undergoing surgery on his throwing-hand thumb on Dec. 28.

"It feels good," Goff said. "It's progressing well, it's in a good place."

It remains uncertain whether Goff will start for the Los Angeles Rams against the Seattle Seahawks in the playoffs on Saturday.

Earlier in the week, Sean McVay said he would not announce a starter before kickoff, and on Thursday, after the team's final practice of the week, he stuck to his word.

"We are going to work through that," McVay said, "and we'll see on Saturday."
