Owner: Jaguars Not For Sale
Jaguars owner Wayne Weaver is refinancing debt, considering taking on a financial partner, and struggling to sell tickets and secure a stadium naming rights deal, as reported by the Associated Press on Thursday.
Despite the problems, he wants to make one thing clear: His team is not for sale and is not going anywhere.
?I just wanted to clarify that I?m not selling the Jaguars,? Weaver said in response to a newspaper report. ?The team is not moving to L.A. I don?t know how I can say that any more clearly than that. Everybody wants me to sit here and speculate on the future. I?m not going to speculate on the future."
Report: Jaguars For Sale
A report in the Philadelphia Daily News on Wednesday claims that team owner Wayne Weaver is negotiating to sell the team to billionaire C. Dean Metropoulos, who would like to move the team to Los Angeles, according to The Florida Times-Union.
The team has refused to comment while Metropoulos denies the report.
"I must tell you I haven't had any such discussions," Metropoulos was quoted in the Daily News. "I wouldn't know how to give you any credibility to that because I don't know anything about it."
Weaver has consistently denied any interest in selling in the team although he acknowledged last year that he was looking for additional investors.
