Jaguars' Hawkins Charged With Drunken Driving

May 18, 2014 5:07 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars' defensive end Brent Hawkins was arrested and charged with drunken driving after he was stopped for speeding on his way home from a night out. The 24-year-old was arrested early Monday when deputies clocked him driving his 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe at 64 mph in a 45-mph zone, a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office report said. He told deputies he had three vodka and orange juice drinks during the night, the report said. He also told the arresting deputy that he had a previous drunken-driving arrest in Illinois. "I noticed while speaking to him that he had the odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and that his eyes were bloodshot and watery," the arresting deputy wrote in the report. Hawkins refused to take a breath test after he was brought to the Duval County Jail, a sheriff's spokesman said.

Sep 20, 2014 6:21 AM

Tom Brady was almost perfect. The Patriots still are. Their poised and prolific quarterback knocked another mark out of the books in their record-breaking season by completing all but two of his 28 passes to lead New England to its second straight AFC championship game with a 31-20 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday night.

Jags Drop Asterisk From Pats' Record On Web Site

Nov 25, 2014 4:39 PM

The asterisk the Jacksonville Jaguars had on their Web site next to New England's perfect record, a mark indicating the Patriots were caught cheating in one game this season, has been removed. The Jaguars, who play at New England in the divisional round of the AFC playoffs Saturday night, decided to remove the asterisk Friday. Jaguars.com senior editor Vic Ketchman put the asterisk next to the Patriots in his weekly "power rankings." Ketchman said he put it there in "an attempt at subtle humor." It remained there, mostly under the radar, for four months. That changed this week, when several media outlets turned the asterisk into a story.

Two Jaguars' Defenders Limited, Peterson Ruled Out

May 11, 2014 12:00 PM

Jaguars' defensive tackle John Henderson and safety Reggie Nelson missed parts of practice Tuesday, a potential setback for a team preparing to play unbeaten New England in the AFC playoffs. Coach Jack Del Rio also ruled out linebacker Mike Peterson, who will miss his eighth consecutive game with a broken right hand. Peterson broke several bones in his hand Nov. 18 against San Diego and hasn't practiced since. He hoped to have his cast removed and return to practice this week, but Del Rio said team doctors didn't give him medical clearance. Henderson strained a hamstring in the first quarter Saturday night at Pittsburgh and played sparingly the rest of the way. He wasn't at the start of practice Tuesday. Nelson injured his thigh in practice last week but played against the Steelers. He was riding a stationary bike during practice Tuesday.

Jags' Spicer Says Pats Shouldn't Have Made Playoffs After SpyGate

Sep 7, 2014 12:41 PM

If the undefeated Patriots needed bulletin board material for their playoff game Saturday night against the Jaguars, they have it now. If Jacksonville defensive lineman Paul Spicer had his way, the Patriots wouldn't have even qualified for the playoffs because of the Spygate scandal. "Do like the NCAA and kick them out of the playoffs or something," Spicer told The Associated Press after news of the scandal broke. "Put them on probation; they can't go to no playoff games. Roger Goodell has definitely enforced some new rules. He's been hard on players. Now let's see how hard he's going to be with a team." The Patriots lost their 2008 first-round draft pick, the team was fined $250,000, and Bill Belichick was docked $500,000 as a result of the scandal in which they were caught videotaping New York Jets coaches' signals during the teams' Week 1 matchup. New England still has one 2008 first-round pick as a result of their trade with the San Francisco 49ers during the 2007 draft.

RealGM's Wild Card Rundown

Sep 10, 2014 10:35 PM

Seattle 35, Washington 14 Midway through the fourth quarter it seemed as though the Washington Redskins might ride their inspirational run to an upset victory over the Seattle Seahawks. Trailing 13-0 heading into the final period, Washington scored consecutive touchdowns to take a 14-13 lead, and then recovered the ensuing kickoff. Unfortunately for the Redskins, Shaun Suisham missed a short field goal, keeping Washington from maintaining their momentum. Seattle then scored fourteen points in less than a minute, on a 20-yard touchdown catch by D.J. Hackett and a 78-yard interception return by Marcus Trufant. Matt Hasselbeck struggled, going 20-for-32 with 229 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions, but the Seahawks? opportunistic defense allowed them to overcome their offensive shortcomings. Todd Collins played well for Washington, going 29-for-50 with 286 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Neither team ran the ball too often, or too well. Washington rushed 29 times for a total of 75 yards, while Seattle ran just 21 times for 77 yards. The Seahawks will face the Packers this weekend. Playoff Stud: D.J. Hackett, SEA: 6 catches for 101 receiving yards and one touchdown. Jacksonville 31, Pittsburgh 29 The Jacksonville Jaguars stormed out of the gates and took a 21-7 halftime lead over the Pittsburgh Steelers, but needed a last minute scoring drive in order to lock up the victory. Ben Roethlisberger was 29-for-42 with 337 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions, while David Garrard went 9-for-21 with 140 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. The Jaguars rode their stellar rushing attack to victory, as Fred Taylor, Maurice Jones-Drew and Garrard combined for 135 yards and two touchdowns. Pittsburgh rallied to take a 29-28 lead with less than three minutes remaining on a 1-yard touchdown run by Najeh Davenport, but they failed on a two-point conversion pass that would have given them a three-point edge. That failure proved costly as Garrard led the Jaguars down field in time for Josh Scobee to kick a 25-yard game-winning field goal. The Jaguars will face the undefeated Patriots this Saturday night. Playoff Stud: Hines Ward, PIT: 10 catches for 135 receiving yards. N.Y. Giants 24, Tampa Bay 14 Eli Manning got a sizeable monkey off his back on Sunday as he led the Giants to their first playoff victory in seven years, achieving his first postseason win in the process. Manning went 20-for-27 with 185 yards and two touchdowns, but more important was the fact that he had zero turnovers. Jeff Garcia, who was steady all season long, struggled against the Giants? improved secondary. Garcia finished the day 23-for-39 with 207 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Earnest Graham played well for Tampa Bay, running for 63 yards and a touchdown against New York. The Giants? two-headed running attack of Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw totaled 110 rushing yards and a touchdown of their own. After falling behind 7-0, New York scored 24 straight points to take the lead for good. Manning and the Giants will travel to Dallas this weekend to play the rival Cowboys for the chance to reach to NFC title game. Playoff Stud: Amani Toomer, NYG: 7 catches for 74 receiving yards and one touchdown. San Diego 17, Tennessee 6 The San Diego Chargers? offense came to life at just the right moment as they sent the Tennessee Titans home on Sunday, winning 17-6. The Titans led 6-0 at the half, but San Diego rallied to score 17 points over a sixteen minute period that bridged the third and fourth quarters. Philip Rivers finished the day 19-for-30 with 292 yards, one touchdown and an interception. Vince Young struggled in his playoff debut, going 16-for-29 with 138 yards and an interception. He added just twelve yards on the ground for Tennessee. LaDainian Tomlinson wasn?t efficient, he ran 21 times for just 42 yards, but he scored a 1-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter that put the game out of reach. LenDale White played well, gaining 69 yards on 19 attempts, but the Titans could only manage two field goals against San Diego?s powerful defense. Chris Chambers helped make up for the loss of Antonio Gates, who left in the first half because of a toe injury, catching six passes for 121 yards. The Chargers will travel to Indianapolis to face the Colts this weekend. Playoff Stud: Vincent Jackson, SD: 5 catches for 114 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Jags' Scobee Kicks FG To Beat Steelers

Oct 31, 2014 12:42 PM

The past means nothing to the Jaguars in Pittsburgh, and neither does a frantic Steelers' fourth-quarter rally. The Jaguars overcame both obstacles there for the second time in three weeks, and next up might be another date with history. Josh Scobee saved the game by kicking a 25-yard field goal with 37 seconds remaining, and the Jaguars came back after squandering an 18-point lead in the fourth quarter to beat the Steelers 31-29 on Saturday night in an AFC wild-card game that was wild in every sense of the word.
