Taylor: I May Not Be In Jacksonville Next Season

Sep 21, 2014 6:54 AM

Fred Taylor has acknowledged that he may not be in Jacksonville next season. Taylor plans to plan another season in the NFL, but realizes that with his salary going up and playing time going down, he could leave the only team he has ever played for. "You do the math," Taylor said. "If you were on the outside looking in, you would think a change was coming." Taylor's first choice would be to remain with the Jaguars, but he also knows how the business side of the league works. "I just want to play football," Taylor said. "This is where my heart is. Jacksonville is all I know. This isn't the last stop. It took me eight years to learn that there were 31 other teams in the NFL. I've always been afraid to get cut, be released, all of that. How come you think I'm still here? I never ever wanted to go into free agency."

Del Rio: There Will Be No Quick Fixes For Jags

May 18, 2014 12:51 AM

Jacksonville head coach Jack Del Rio admitted on Monday that there will be no "quick fixes" for the struggling team. "What I recognize is there's not going to be any quick fix," Del Rio said. "What I recognize is that it is going to take a commitment; it's going to take resolve. I have the resolve and a firm commitment to make sure we're getting this thing turned in the right direction as we close out this year and look to build for next year. We're going to keep doing the right things for the right reasons, ultimately knowing that it's going to get better." Despite a 4-7 record, Del Rio said the team will continue to play hard. "That's expected," he said. "That's never going to be an issue here in Jacksonville. I just don't see that in our guys."

"Daryl Smith is our starting middle linebacker," Del Rio said. Peterson, the team's leading tackler, was suspended for last week's game at Detroit and fined for insubordination after he got into an argument with Del Rio during a team meeting. "There will be no meetings," Del Rio said. "He has to embrace his new role on the team."

Porter: Jones Shouldn't Be Allowed To Play

Sep 3, 2014 4:55 AM

Dolphins' linebacker Joey Porter doesn't believe that Jaguars wide receiver Matt Jones should be allowed to play while he faces a felony drug charge. "He got caught with cocaine, and Matt Jones is still playing football. How does he get away with that? And then you fine people $20,000 for making comments to the media about the refs," Porter said. "The guy got caught with cocaine." Jones was charged with cocaine possession when a police officer in Fayetteville, Ark., saw him inside a parked car allegedly cutting up cocaine with a credit card in July. Last month, Jones agreed to enter into a drug treatment program that could erase the felony charge against him.
