During an appearance on Pardon My Take, Dan Campbell shared an idea that he presented to Detroit Lions owner Sheila Ford Hamp about having a pet lion around the team's practice facility.
"I don't think we're going to be able to do it, but I would love to literally just have a pet lion. Just a legit pet lion on a chain, a big ass chain, and he really is my pet," Campbell said on the podcast. "We just walk around the building, we go out to practice, we're at seven-on-seven, we're behind the kicker when he's kicking. There we are."
Campbell further imagined that the lion would be "on command." Campbell joked that if a position group wasn't performing well, he could have the lion relieve itself in front of the group.
"I mean, think about it," he said. "That would be outstanding."
The Detroit Lions called with an offer for the fourth overall pick when the Atlanta Falcons were on the clock.
The Falcons released a video from inside their draft room this week that shows Terry Fontenot fielding a call before the team selected Kyle Pitts with the No. 4 pick.
It's presumed that Lions GM Brad Holmes was on the other end of the line. Fontenot says that unless he's calling with a much better deal than he had offered in their previous discussions, the Falcons are going to stay put.
It's unclear who the Lions would have been targeting in a move up from No. 7 to No. 4.
The Detroit Lions and Frank Ragnow have agreed to a four-year, $54 million extension that makes him the NFL's highest paid center.
Ragnow was a first round pick in 2018.
"He is a foundational piece because Frank is a guy that plays the game the right way," GM Brad Holmes said. "He's everything that we look for and what we want as a Lion."
The Detroit Lions are releasing Kerryon Johnson.
The running back was a second-round pick in 2018. He became somewhat expendable when the Lions drafted D'Andre Swift at No. 35 in 2020.
Johnson ran for 1,225 yards and eight touchdowns over three seasons. He also has 61 career receptions for 527 yards and three scores.
Last year, he had 181 yards rushing and two scores on 52 carries, and had 19 receptions for 187 yards receiving and a touchdown.
