Suh Gives Gives Alma Mater $2.6M

Aug 7, 2014 10:15 AM

Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh has given his alma mater, Nebraska, $2.6 million. Detroit selected Suh with the second overall pick. "With the locker room, every locker (has) an iPad so the coaches can communicate with e-mail and different things," Suh said. "That idea was already installed before I got there, but in 2006, when we were making that transition over to the (new) locker room, we were supposed to have internal systems -- but budget cuts (eliminated it), I'm sure. "But now I have the opportunity. It's something I didn't get, but now others can enjoy."

"If he is able to get back, it has shown that he's right on track and he's healthy enough to be able to be in a game, but let's wait until Sunday before we start ... let's not get ahead of ourselves."

NFL To Review Catch Rule That Cost Lions Win

Sep 7, 2014 12:21 PM

The NFL expects to review the catch rule that cost Lions receiver Calvin Johnson a potential winning touchdown in a season-opening loss to Chicago. After Johnson went to the turf with possession, he placed the ball on the ground as he ran to celebrate. The play was ruled a non-catch. "The going-to-the-ground rule definitely will be discussed," NFL competition committee co-chairman Rich McKay said. "It's been discussed the last couple of years. It's a difficult rule. It was made for on-field officials, not as much for people watching on TV."

Lions Sign Sims To Extension

Apr 3, 2014 10:14 PM

The Lions have signed offensive guard Rob Sims to a four-year contract extension. Sims, who earns a base salary of $1.2 million this season, is now under contract with the Lions through 2014. "We don't do a lot of renegotiating during the season, but in this case it just made sense," said Lions president Tom Lewand. "Rob is a young guy who has really solidified our offensive line." "We liked Rob for a lot of reasons when we traded for him and he has validated all the things we saw," Lewand said. "He's been a great fit in the locker room and a great fit schematically on the field."

When asked whether he could start throwing this week and still be ready to play Sunday, Stafford said, "We'll see."
