Jones Believes Bryant Is On Right Course

Oct 11, 2014 5:19 AM

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones isn't overly concerned about wide receiver Dez Bryant. "I really wouldn't want to address any particular player. But I will, since I was asked the question -- no, I'm not concerned," Jones said. "I think that Dez does have accountability right now, not only within himself, but also to his teammates. And at the end of the day, those two constituencies, Dez himself as well as his teammates, are the ones that are going to make the biggest difference in his life. "So he's in the right area for the right type of influence, and I think that will have a positive impact."

Cowboys Want Seating Case Tossed

Jul 26, 2014 5:11 PM

The NFL and the Cowboys have asked a federal judge to dismiss the class-action lawsuit filed on behalf of Super Bowl ticket holders who wound up with no seats for February's game. About 1,250 temporary seats at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington were deemed unsafe just hours before the Feb. 6 game between the Packers and Steelers. A 26-page motion filed by the league and the team on Thursday says the ticket holders aren't entitled to compensation beyond what they've already been offered.

Jones Gets Permission To Attend Romo's Wedding

Sep 30, 2014 11:44 PM

The NFL lockout won't prevent Cowboys owner Jerry Jones from going to the wedding of star quarterback Tony Romo. At the NFL owners meetings Wednesday in Indianapolis, Jones said that he'll attend Romo's wedding Saturday in Dallas. "I've gotten special permission," Jones said. "But more than anything, [I got the] right ticket from him and his fianceé -- Romo's wife-to-be. [It's] one of prettiest invitations I've ever seen. "So, yes, I will be there and [I'm] proud for him. He's got the best end of this deal."

Jones: I Didn't Pay $1.2B For Stadium To Be Empty

Sep 20, 2014 3:38 PM

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is confident that the 2011 season will be played despite the NFL's current lockout. "I didn't spend $1.2 billion to build a stadium and not have the Cowboys playing football in it this year," Jones said while speaking at the team's annual golf tournament. "In general, the response of our ticket holders, the response of our suite holders, the response of all of our constituencies has been they have been and are expecting us to play football," Jones added.

Staubach: Romo Is A 'Super Bowl QB'

Sep 20, 2014 3:40 PM

Cowboys legend Roger Staubach says that quarterback Tony Romo isn't the team's problem. Staubach, speaking at the Pat Summerall Humble Beginnings Award luncheon this week, said there is no basis for the verbal attacks Romo has endured. "I don't understand that," Staubach said. "He is a fierce competitor. He works out. He's with his team during the season. He's one heck of a football player. I think he has been a leader. Leaders -- you mature as you get experience yourself at that position. But the players like him. And look what he's done. He's accomplished a lot." More impressive than Romo's three Pro Bowl selections are his 39-22 record as a starter and his career quarterback rating of 95.5. "He hasn't been the problem," Staubach said. "He's done unbelievable. He's right at the top of the NFL as far as a quarterback -- as far as his statistics and the things he does. He moves around the pocket. He makes great plays. "Our quarterback is not our problem in Dallas. We've got a Super Bowl quarterback. "I really believe that the league is so close in parity ... and Dallas is the kind of team with Jason (Garrett) that they can be right there in the thick of it this year ... And they have the quarterback that can do it."

Jerry Jones Pleased With Dez Bryant

Oct 16, 2014 9:31 PM

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is pleased that players are working out on their own, especially wide receiver Dez Bryant. "Dez is one who, if you get him near a football, you have to slow him down, not get him encouraged," Jones said. "So if he does that in the right form, he gets to work with our quarterback, he gets to do the right things, the impact of not having our coaches involved before the season." Bryant is coming off a fractured ankle that cost him the last four weeks of the 2010 season.

DeMarcus Ware Getting Paid During Lockout

May 9, 2014 12:26 AM

Cowboys linebacker DeMarcus Ware is the only member of the team that has received a paycheck during the lockout. Ware received $6.8 million from the Cowboys on March 15, three days after the owners locked out the players, as part of deferred payments owed to him. When Ware renegotiated his contract in October 2009, he received a $20 million signing bonus, but $1 million of that was deferred to the spring of 2011. Ware's 2010 base salary was $7.8 million, but $5.8 million of it also was deferred to the following year.

Daryl Johnston Rips Into Dez Bryant

Oct 9, 2014 3:59 AM

Not everyone with ties to the Cowboys organization has faith in young wide receiver Dez Bryant. Daryl "Moose" Johnston weighed in on the situation with some pessimism. "I don't know what you do with Dez Bryant because when Deion Sanders gives up on you that speaks volumes to me," Johnston said. "Deion goes out of his way to help young guys and try to help them reach their potential in the NFL. And when Deion says, 'I can't work with you anymore,' that's the first time he has ever done that. "This is a person with unique talent but with unique issues. And it would be a disappointment for Dez, number one, his family, the Cowboys, and their fans if he doesn't live up to the potential he flashed as a rookie . He was by far the most talented guy on that field many times during last fall. And the sky's the limit for that kid. And I just hope that at some point he understands and realizes that he shouldn't waste two or three years because his head is not in the game." While some have compared Bryant to one of Johnston's former teammate Michael Irvin, the ex-Cowboy warns they have positively nothing in common. "Don't ever to compare him to Michael Irvin because they are polar opposites," Johnston said. "Michael was high-profile and he had the 'Playmaker' nickname, but Michael was the hardest worker on that team. So, one of things you have to be careful with is that all of a sudden (because) he's high-profile and he's dynamic as a player you reach back and compare him to Michael. It couldn't be further from reality. "We had big personalities but we had guys who came to work and all they wanted to do was win football games. And hopefully that's what Dez realizesthat this is not about finishing your rookie contract."
