Adviser: Bryant Is 'In A Dark Place'

Oct 31, 2014 2:19 PM

Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant wants to pay back his debts, according to his adviser. Two lawsuits emerged this week alleging Bryant owes more than $850,000, not including damages or legal fees, from jewelry and tickets to sporting events purchased on credit, as well as unpaid loans. "We'll get them all settled and dealt with," adviser David Wells said Wednesday. "We want to move on, that's what we want to do. We're working on it." Wells also told ESPN 103.3 FM's Ben & Skin Show and guest Deion Sanders on Wednesday that Bryant, who had a strong rookie season, was "in a dark place." "I talked to him yesterday and he wants to get past this," he added. "He wants to get all these deals past him and closure. He's in a dark place in his life. Until you find that light, you're going to continue to be in a dark place."

One day after a civil lawsuit was filed against Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant saying he owed $246,000 worth of jewelry to a New York-based company, another civil lawsuit has emerged against him and his adviser David Wells. Eleow Hunt, a jeweler and ticket broker, said Bryant hasn't paid for jewelry and tickets to sporting events or repaid personal loans that collectively total in excess of $600,000. The lawsuit says that Bryant, who was about to become a junior at Oklahoma State when the spending spree allegedly began, was supposed to repay Hunt when he signed either an NFL or promotional contract, whichever came first.

Sep 25, 2014 4:13 PM

Deion Sanders strongly criticized Dez Bryant in reaction to the criminal trespass warning given to the wide receiver over the weekend at a Dallas mall. Sanders stopped mentoring Bryant months ago. "I'm upset but not surprised whatsoever," Sanders said on The Ben & Skin Show on ESPN 103.3 FM in Dallas. Sanders described Bryant's behavior at NorthPark Center as "ignorant." The 2010 first-round pick was issued the warning after an off-duty police officer requested that Bryant and his friends pull up their pants because their underwear was showing and Bryant responded with repeated profanity, according to the police report. "He needs help. He needs help," Sanders said. "I told the Cowboys from Day One that he needs help. Matter of fact, they have a team in place to help him. But you cannot tell a grown man what to do."
