Browns Looking At McCoy As Starter

Nov 12, 2014 5:22 PM

Armed with a high draft pick, as well as veteran Jake Delhomme, the Browns are still looking at Colt McCoy as their starting quarterback. The National Football Post's Dam Pompei cites his "Browns peeps" as telling him that the organization wants McCoy as the starter. However, Cleveland may have to lean on Delhomme if the lockout lingers and McCoy, a second-year player, doesn't have enough time to learn the team's new offensive system.

Browns Fan Sues NFL Over Lockout

Nov 4, 2014 5:44 AM

A Browns fan sued the NFL and its teams over the player lockout, claiming it violated his contract to buy tickets through his personal seat license. Ken Lanci, a self-made millionaire who ran unsuccessfully last year for the top county government job in Cleveland, filed the lawsuit Thursday in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court. "It's a fight between billionaires and millionaires," Lanci said. "There isn't any sympathy for multimillionaires. It's just not going to happen. And somebody has to stand up and say, 'Enough's enough.' " The lawsuit asked for damages of more than $25,000 from the Browns on both breach of contract and bad faith counts and more than $25,000 from the league and its teams for alleged contract interference.

Cribbs: New Rules Make Returners Obsolete

Oct 1, 2014 1:08 PM

Browns returner Joshua Cribbs believes the new kickoff rules adopted by the NFL will make players like him obsolete. "I totally disagree (with the rule change)," Cribbs said. "I don't think they take special teams serious enough. You can say you're making it safer for players, but that's part of it, not taking special teams serious enough. That ticks me off, because we, the Cleveland Browns, win games on special teams." The change was actually more modest than originally proposed. The suggested placement of the ball at the 25-yard line, rather than the 20, on touchbacks was nixed, as was elimination of the two-man wedge. However, the line of scrimmage for the kickoff was moved from the 30 to the 35, and the pre-kick running start for the coverage team has been limited to 5 yards. The moves by the NFL's competition committee were made to promote player safety. "I was listening to (some) of the owners speak about how player safety trumps athletic, entertainment ability," Cribbs said. "But we have yet to see any proof or anything that says most of the injuries happen on kickoffs or kickoff returns, and this is why, so we need to move it up 5 yards and it will eliminate it. I just don't see the relevance in the 5-yard rule. All I see is the lack of opportunity that will occur because of that rule." He later said he "appreciate(s) the concern. I really appreciate that. But the motives I question."

Wright Received Death Threats From Cleveland Fans

Jul 25, 2014 5:36 AM

Browns cornerback Eric Wright is determined to bounce back from a poor 2010 season. Wright received death threats from Cleveland fans last season. "I went from people expecting me to be a top cornerback in the league to receiving death threats," Wright said. "It was a lot to deal with." The Browns extended a second-round tender to Wright last week. The tide turned for Wright in Week 3 of the 2010 season when he surrendered three touchdown catches to Baltimore's Anquan Boldin. "It's hard to dig yourself out of that type of hole when you have the worst game of your career," Wright said. "Then, the team's losing and we had a young corner in Joe Haden who looked great playing. There was a lot of negative attention around my struggles and it was hard to overcome."
