Former University of Miami offensive coordinator Mark Whipple agreed Monday morning to become Cleveland's quarterbacks coach, according to a league source. Browns coach Pat Shurmur won't have an offensive coordinator during his first season. Shurmur said when he was hired that he would call the offensive plays next season.

The Browns will name Dick Jauron their defensive coordinator, according to a league source. Jauron spent the past two seasons coaching Philadelphia's secondary. He replaces Rob Ryan, who left for the same position with the Cowboys.

The Browns are expected to name Bill Musgrave their offensive coordinator. Several teams are interested in Musgrave, who coached under Mike Smith in Atlanta. Other suitors don't expect to meet with Musgrave because of a pending agreement with Cleveland.

The Browns will interview defensive coordinators Dave Wannstedt and Dick Jauron this week, according to a league source. Wannstedt recently was fired as head coach at the University of Pittsburgh. Jauron spent the past season as a secondary coach and senior assistant for the Eagles, for whom he's also a candidate for their defensive coordinator job.

The Cowboys are working on a deal to make Rob Ryan their new defensive coordinator, according to a source. Ryan interviewed with Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett and owner/general manager Jerry Jones on Friday. He still has a year left on his deal with Cleveland, but the team is expected to go in a new direction under new coach Pat Shurmur.

The Browns hired Rams' offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur on Thursday, ending a search for their fifth coach since 1999 that began when Eric Mangini was fired on Jan. 3. Shurmur was the first candidate interviewed by Browns president Mike Holmgren.

Rams offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur has emerged as the leading candidate for the Cleveland Browns' head coaching job, according to league sources. The sources said Cleveland hopes to hammer out a contract with Shurmur within the next 48 hours and introduce Shurmur as coach at a news conference by Friday.

The Browns have interviewed Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell for their vacant head coaching job. Fewell served as Buffalo's interim coach for seven games last season. He interviewed with Cleveland on Tuesday and is the third known candidate for the job. Fewell followed St. Louis offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur and Atlanta offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey.

Eagles coach Andy Reid says he hasn't received any paperwork from the Browns asking to met with offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg. Cleveland is in the second week of their head coaching search after firing Eric Mangini last week. Mornhinweg is believed to be on Browns president Mike Holmgren's list of potential replacements.

Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey interviewed with the Browns for their vacant head coaching position on Saturday. Mularkey met with Cleveland president Mike Holmgren and general manager Tom Heckert. The executives traveled to Atlanta. It was their second interview since Eric Mangini was dismissed.
