Browns Could Trade Up For Bradford

Oct 6, 2014 3:19 PM

The Browns haven't ruled out trading up to draft Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford. Cleveland has the seventh overall pick and there have been rumors that St. Louis could take him first overall. "I don't think we're closing the door on anything," general manager Tom Heckert said. "We're not shutting the door on moving up or even moving back. We're listening to a lot of different teams. It's still early. We have talked to teams about moving up and moving back. We're not closing the door on any position."

Browns Will Give Harrison High Tender

Jul 8, 2014 9:39 AM

The Browns don't plan to make it easy for teams to sign free agent Jerome Harrison away from them this offseason. Cleveland president Mike Holmgren said the team will "tender him something to make it very difficult for somebody to come in and get him." Harrison will be a restricted free agent because of the uncapped year. The Browns can either give him the first-round tender for a four-year player of $2.521 million or the first- and third-round tender of $3.168 million.

Holmgren: It's A Longshot That Quinn, Anderson Will Both Return

Jul 8, 2014 4:15 AM

Mike Holmgren isn't ready to make a final decision on his quarterbacks just yet, but he doesn't expect both Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson to remain with the team. "I think it's a long shot," he said of both remaining in Cleveland. "Never say never. But I've gone on record as saying I don't want a quarterback competition. They did that last year. And that didn't work out."

Holmgren 'Astounded' By Fans Disloyalty To McNabb

Oct 30, 2014 6:44 AM

Browns general manager Mike Holmgren can't believe that fans in Philadelphia have written off Donovan McNabb yet again. "I'm astounded by that," ESPN.com's Matt Mosley. "I'm like most of the folks around the league. With all that he's done for that team over the long haul...I guess part of it's that he hasn't been able to get over the hump [and win a Super Bowl]." Holmgren thinks McNabb could end up playing as long as Brett Favre or Kurt Warner as well. "It's looking like, physically, he could play a long time," said Holmgren. "But he's a guy that when he loses the ability to move around, it'll probably be near the end."

Browns Plan To Build Through Draft

Jul 8, 2014 4:15 AM

Browns president Mike Holmgren says that the team plans to rebuild through the NFL Draft. The league is headed for an uncapped season, but Cleveland won't spend freely. "As an organization we believe in building a team through the draft and being very selective in free agency; I think that's how you build it," Holmgren said. "We're not going to do things a whole lot different than what has been done in the past. We're going to do what we think is best for the Cleveland Browns. If that means signing somebody in free agency, we're going to do that. We're going to do what we think is best, but also be responsible."

Cribbs, Browns Progressing Towards Deal

Jul 9, 2014 1:50 AM

Joshua Cribbs has made significant progress on a new contract with the Browns and both sides are optimistic about his future with the team. The sides have the framework of a three-year deal that would replace the three years left on Cribbs' current contract, but they are continuing negotiations on the amount of guaranteed money, according to the sources. Cribbs wants around $10 million guaranteed, but the Browns have offered just half of that at this time.

Lewis Will Play If Healthy, Has Shot At Super Bowl

Oct 31, 2014 4:41 AM

Jamal Lewis was released by the Browns earlier this week, but that doesn't mean his career is over. Agent Mitch Frankel said Thursday that Lewis will consider playing next season if he feels strong physically and can sign on with a Super Bowl contender. "Jamal was kind of expecting this to happen, given where the organization is at this time and where he is in his career," said Frankel. "But he would give serious thought to playing again next season if he feels healthy and he has a legitimate shot to go to the Super Bowl. He hasn't won one in 10 years and would like another chance." In a statement from his representatives, Lewis said, "I would like to thank [Randy] Lerner and the Browns family for giving me the opportunity to play three years with an organization that has such a rich tradition. My teammates, the fans, and the community were great. I plan to evaluate my future and have not made a final determination on whether I will be playing football next season."

Agent: No Timetable For Cribbs Deal

May 16, 2014 11:38 PM

The agent for Joshua Cribbs says that he's having "very positive exchanges" with the Browns, but there is no timetable for a new contract agreement. "This is the most positive dialogue we've had since we've been doing this over the past three years with the Browns," said agent J.R. Rickert. "We're exchanging numbers and there's no telling what the timetable will be, but when we can bridge all of the existing gaps, we'll have this done."

Kolb More Likely For Browns Than McNabb

May 17, 2014 4:26 AM

The Browns are in need of a quarterback and they have a connection to the Eagles. Cleveland's new general manager Tom Heckert left Philadelphia to take the position. Kevin Kolb could be a better option for the Browns than Donovan McNabb because he won't require a contract extension to ensure the near future. In addition, Heckert drafted Kolb in Philadelphia and may have a soft spot for him. Michael Lombardi of the National Football Post points out that Cleveland could offer defensive tackle Shaun Rogers for the young quarterback.
