Shannon Brazzell, the executive director of Tomlinson's foundation, said he'd hoped Tomlinson could meet the 8-year-old and his family after Sunday's Jets-Texans game at the New Meadowlands Stadium. The Jets offered to fly the family to New Jersey to watch a game in a luxury suite at the New Meadowlands Stadium and receive autographed memorabilia from coach Rex Ryan and players. But the child's family turned down the offer.

The Browns have agreed to a contract with former Pro Bowl kick returner Clifton Smith, according to a source. Smith was released earlier this season by Miami and worked out for Cleveland on Tuesday. The Browns need a kick returner after Pro Bowler Josh Cribbs dislocated toes in Sunday's loss to the Jets.

The Browns haven't made an official announcement about the remainder of the season, but the growing belief within the organization is that Colt McCoy is their quarterback of the future. Browns linebacker Marcus Benard has been released from a hospital after collapsing in the locker room on Thursday. Benard was sitting in a chair in front of his cubicle when he suddenly fell to the carpeted floor. In a statement, the Browns said he will undergo further evaluation on Friday.
