The Cincinnati Bengals have agreed to a one-year deal with tight end Irv Smith, Jr., according to a source.

Orlando Brown, Bengals Agree To Four-Year, $64M Deal

Mar 15, 2023 11:20 PM

Orlando Brown Jr. and the Cincinnati Bengals have agreed to a four-year, $64 million deal with a signing bonus of over $31 million.

The Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Jets were among other teams that showed interest in Brown.

If Brown continues to play left tackle, that means former first-round pick Jonah Williams will likely need to find a new position. Williams, who had his fifth-year option picked up last season, has been the team's primary starter on the left side of the offensive line since he was drafted in 2019.

Sheriff's deputies entered the home of Joe Mixon early Tuesday morning in response to a "shots fired" call, according to a report.

No arrests were made, but a juvenile was reportedly taken to the hospital with "minor injuries," though it's currently unclear on how he sustained them.

WLWT News 5 in Cincinnati spoke with Mixon's sister Shelonda early Tuesday morning, and she reportedly said her brother wasn't involved in the shooting.

Bengals Vague About Joe Mixon's Future With Team

Mar 1, 2023 8:34 AM

The Cincinnati Bengals are going to have to cut players in order to afford lucrative contract extensions for Joe Burrow, Tee Higgins and Ja'Marr Chase.

Judging by the words of Duke Tobin, Joe Mixon could be among the cap casualties for the Bengals very soon.

"Joe has been a vital part of our team," Tobin said. "He's been a successful part of our team. Again, I'm not gonna predict the offseason because I don't have the answers. In the words of the great Kevin Malone (a character from The Office), 'I don't know.'"

Mixon is due to count nearly $12.8 million against the salary cap in 2023.

"We'll all see as the offseason goes, what we're able to get done and how the resources are spread around," Tobin said. "But Joe's been a vital part of our team, a successful part, a contributing part. And my job is to try to keep as many of those pieces around as we can."

Cutting or trading Mixon before June 1 would incur a dead-money hit of $5.5 million but result in almost $7.3 million in cap space.

Designating Mixon as a post-June 1 transaction would be more friendly for the Bengals, with a dead-money hit of $2.75 million and salary-cap savings of just over $10 million.

Bengals Not Trading Tee Higgins: 'Find Your Own' WR

Mar 1, 2023 8:23 AM

The Cincinnati Bengals are making it known that Tee Higgins isn't going anywhere.

Duke Tobin refuted any notion that the team could be interested in shopping the standout receiver this offseason.

"If they want a receiver, go find your own," Tobin said. "In my opinion, Tee Higgins is a good piece for the Cincinnati Bengals. The trade stuff is a little ridiculous right now."

Higgins, a third-year player, is about to enter the final year of his rookie contract. He is one of several players who will be up for contract extensions this year or next, including Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase.
