Joe Burrow had successful wrist surgery on Monday, the Cincinnati Bengals have announced.

The procedure was to repair a torn ligament, an injury that was suffered on Nov. 16 against the Baltimore Ravens.

"The procedure went as planned and he is expected to make a complete recovery," the team said in a statement. "Joe will return to Cincinnati this week to be with the team and begin the recovery and rehab process."

Bengals coach Zac Taylor dismissed the notion that Sunday's 16-10 loss to the Steelers could be pinned on running back Joe Mixon.

Mixon was held to just 16 yards on eight carries. The lack of production came in the team's third straight defeat and first game with quarterback Jake Browning playing in place of the injured Joe Burrow, who is out for the season with a torn ligament in his right wrist.

Taylor defended his veteran running back after he was asked about his confidence level in Mixon.

"This has nothing to do with Joe Mixon," Taylor said. "This is the entirety of the unit coming together.

Burrow suffered a season-ending right wrist injury in the team's Week 11 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Nov. 16.

On Friday, Bengals coach Zac Taylor said Burrow was going to formally be placed on injured reserve by the end of the weekend and that the quarterback was still "most likely" going to have surgery to repair a torn ligament in his wrist.

Jake Browning, who has been with the team since 2021 and won the backup job heading into this season, will make his first career NFL start. AJ McCarron, who is in his second stint with the club, was promoted from the practice squad to the active roster for Sunday's contest versus Pittsburgh (6-4).

Zac Taylor said Burrow fell on the wrist earlier in the game before he appeared to be in serious pain after throwing a 4-yard touchdown pass to Joe Mixon, his last play of the game.

Before the game, Burrow was spotted coming off the team plane wearing something on his wrist that resembled protective gear. Burrow had not been listed on the injury report during the week and Taylor said he was not aware of Burrow dealing with any wrist issue.

Jason Myers sent the Seattle Seahawks to a 29-26 win over the Washington Commanders on Sunday at Lumen Field when he hit a 43-yard field goal in the final seconds.

That kick also sent Week 10 of the NFL season into the record books.

The Seahawks' win over Washington was the fifth game of the day that was decided on a made field goal as time expired, joining the Cleveland Browns over the Baltimore Ravens, the Houston Texans over the Cincinnati Bengals, the Arizona Cardinals over the Atlanta Falcons and the Detroit Lions over the Los Angeles Chargers.

Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins will not play Sunday against the Houston Texans, coach Zac Taylor said Friday.

Higgins suffered a hamstring injury Wednesday and didn't practice the rest of the week. He watched the wide receivers in individual drills during the open portion of Thursday's practice and was not spotted during the viewing window open to the media Friday.

The Cincinnati Bengals are expected to be without Tee Higgins this Sunday against the Houston Texans.

Higgins injured his hamstring in practice on Wednesday and didn't practice on Thursday.

The wide receiver will be evaluated on a week-to-week basis, according to a source.

Ja'Marr Chase is dealing with back soreness after he suffered a tough hit in Sunday's win over the Buffalo Bills.

Chase finished the game but the Cincinnati Bengals are unsure about his availability for this week's game against the Houston Texans.

"I'm just going to support my teammates, man," Chase said. "Let those guys do what they got to do. Only thing I can do is get healthy for the team and try my best."

Zac Taylor said he's under the belief that Chase suffered the injury in the third quarter of the team's 24-18 win at Paycor Stadium. Chase leaped backwards in the air to catch a deep ball from Joe Burrow, slammed to the turf after he was unable to make the acrobatic catch and was slow to get up.
