Joe Burrow Using Aaron Rodgers As 'Resource' On Calf Injury

Sep 28, 2023 8:33 AM

Joe Burrow has been using Aaron Rodgers as a "resource" in how he handles his lingering calf injury.

Rodgers revealed on "The Pat McAfee Show" this week that he reached out to Burrow after the Bengals' quarterback played through a right calf injury in the team's 19-16 win over the Los Angeles Rams on Monday night.

Burrow said the two connected last week as he wanted to use Rodgers as a resource given his own injury history.

"He's dealt with calf issues his whole career and wanted to use him as a resource and get his thoughts, what he might have done," said Burrow, who added that he considered what Rodgers said. "He's been through it, done that. And he was great about it."

In his interview with McAfee, Rodgers praised Burrow's toughness and described the difficulty of playing with the calf injury.

"For him to tough it out, I don't think that people realize how much pain and limited mobility he was in," Rodgers said. "But for him to gut it out last night and to make enough plays to win, like I texted him, that's what great competitors do. They show up and play through the pain and don't make it a big deal."

Joe Burrow: Risk Of 0-3 Outweighed Risk Of Reinjury

Sep 26, 2023 8:32 AM

Joe Burrow said the risk of the Cincinnati Bengals going 0-3 on Monday night outweighed the possibility of the quarterback further injuring his strained right calf.

Eight days after he aggravated the calf, Burrow played every offensive snap as the Bengals defeated the Los Angeles Rams 19-16.

"There is risk to go out there and potentially reinjure it," Burrow said. "But there's also the risk to not go out there and be 0-3. So I wanted to be out there for my guys, and I was confident that I would be able to do what I needed to get the win."

Burrow was 26-of-49 passing for 259 yards with no touchdowns and one interception. Afterward, he acknowledged that he and the offense need to be better.

The quarterback said he went through a workout Monday morning and felt good enough to play. He said the criteria was simply not having any setbacks. Once he practiced Friday and Saturday, he said he felt confident in his ability to compete and voiced that sentiment to team personnel.

Ja'Marr Chase was vocal throughout the week about Burrow not playing if he wasn't completely healthy, and Chase repeated that opinion before the game.

"I was like, 'You got nuts, boy. I didn't want you to play,'" Chase said. "That just shows that Joe's hardheaded. But he's a football player, man. You can't knock him from being tough like that. They don't make too many quarterbacks tough like that."

'Hard To Say' If Joe Burrow Will Play In Week 3

Sep 19, 2023 8:55 AM

The Cincinnati Bengals aren't sure if Joe Burrow will play in Week 3 after he aggravated a right calf injury in Sunday's loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Burrow's availability for Monday's game against the Los Angeles Rams is "hard to say," Zac Taylor said.

When asked about the possibility of resting Burrow for a week or two to give him time to recover from the injury, Taylor said it depends on the advice of the medical staff.

"First of all we have to hear what the doctors have to say before we start to assume anything," Taylor said. "Once we get that information, we have those [conversations], figure out what we're going to do."

Joe Burrow Aggravates Calf Injury As Bengals Drop To 0-2

Sep 18, 2023 9:03 AM

Joe Burrow aggravated his strained right calf during Sunday's loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

The Cincinnati Bengals quarterback was seen limping and treating the calf on the sideline late in the team's 27-24 loss as they fell to 0-2 for the second straight season.

Burrow and Zac Taylor both said he would have gone back into the game had the Bengals received the ball one more time.

"I'm not sure how it's going to feel the next couple days," Burrow said. "It's pretty sore right now. No telling how it's going to feel. So, I think we're going to take it day by day."

Burrow said he "tweaked it a little bit" on the team's final offensive drive of the game.

He missed nearly six weeks in the preseason with the strained right calf he suffered in the second practice of training camp.

In his new lawsuit against the NFL, former NFL Network reporter Jim Trotter alleges that the league exercises control of NFL Media.

Trotter makes specific allegations regarding his efforts to report information learned regarding the cancellation of the Buffalo Bills-Cincinnati Bengals game on January 2, 2023, after Damar Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest on the field.

While trying to report on the league's desire for the game to resume in the days following, Trotter was told by one league official to "stand down" in his reporting on the story.

Joe Burrow: Contract Last Thing I'm Thinking About Right Now

Sep 7, 2023 9:16 AM

Joe Burrow declared himself ready to go on Wednesday after missing an extended stretch while recovering from a calf injury suffered at the start of training camp with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Burrow is entering his fourth season with the Bengals and he is eligible for an extension that has been the focus of much discussion this offseason.

"That's the last thing I'm thinking about," Burrow said. "I'm worried about beating the [Cleveland] Browns right now. I mean it comes when it comes. I'm not worried about it or anything."

Burrow said he feels "great about the organization and everybody in the locker room and in the coaching staff" and that his goal is to remain with the Bengals for his entire career.
