Patrick Peterson Backtracks On Trade Request, Wants To Stay

Patrick Peterson now says he wants to remain with the Arizona Cardinals.

It was reported that Peterson requested a trade in mid-October, but the cornerback backtracked just a few days later.

"I just want to apologize to everybody for asking for that trade in the middle of the season," Peterson said. "I'm here to stay, baby."

He said on Wednesday that he'll honor his contract, which goes through the 2020 season.

Larry Fitzgerald Returning To Cardinals On One-Year Deal

Larry Fitzgerald has announced he is returning for his 16th NFL season.

Fitzgerald signed a one-year deal with the Cardinals.

"No player has meant more to this franchise or this community than Larry Fitzgerald," team president Michael Bidwill said in a statement. "In my discussions with him, it was clear that he is as driven and as passionate as ever. We are thrilled he'll be back for 2019."

In 2018, Fitzgerald did not announce his decision on playing until mid-February.

Fitzgerald will be 36 during the 2019 season. Fitzgerald had 69 catches for 734 yards and six touchdowns in 2018.

Larry Fitzgerald has yet to decide whether or not he'll return to the Arizona Cardinals for another season.

Fitzgerald has yet to meet new coach Kliff Kingsbury, but the wide receiver thinks highly of him.

"Hell of a coach," Fitzgerald said. "Look at his resume. He's innovative offensively. That's somebody with a future right now. So, I'm excited for the chance to meet him."

The Cardinals have made it clear that they'd love to have the 35-year-old back despite his $16.85 million cap.

"I don't know yet. Taking time to figure it out still," he said.

Steve Sarkisian turned down an offer to become the offensive coordinator of the Arizona Cardinals and will instead have the same job for the University of Alabama.

Former co-offensive coordinator Josh Gattis left the Tide recently for Michigan, and former quarterbacks coach and associate head coach Dan Enos, who reportedly was in line to be Alabama's offensive coordinator and playcaller next season, left Friday to become the University of Miami's offensive coordinator.

Sarkisian was an offensive analyst for the Crimson Tide before joining the Atlanta Falcons in 2017. The Falcons fired Sarkisian this offseason.

Kingsbury will receive a four-year deal with the Cardinals owning a fifth season.

Kingsbury will replace Steve Wilks, who was fired on Dec. 31 after one season (3-13) in Arizona.

Texas Tech fired Kingsbury in November after six seasons as head coach. USC had subsequently hired Kingsbury as offensive coordinator.

Kingsbury coached Patrick Mahomes at Texas Tech.
