NFL Won't Punish Tyreek Hill For Marina Incident

Aug 31, 2023 5:13 PM

The NFL said Thursday there will be no action taken by the league against Miami Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill for an incident of alleged assault at Haulover Marina in June.

According to WPLG-TV in Miami, Hill allegedly hit a marina employee during a "disagreement" that took place in June. Miami sports radio show host Andy Slater reported Hill slapped the employee on the back of the head but said the employee has declined to press charges at this time. The incident was investigated by the Miami-Dade Police Department, but no charges were filed against Hill.

Patriots Claim Former Panthers QB Matt Corral

Aug 31, 2023 5:08 PM

The New England Patriots have claimed former Carolina Panthers QB Matt Corral, a source confirmed to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, giving New England a second quarterback behind starter Mac Jones on the 53-man roster.

On Tuesday Corral felt he had made Carolina's 53-man roster, saying he couldn't wait to get in the quarterback room with Bryce Young, the top pick of the 2023 draft, and veteran Andy Dalton. But the 2022 third-round pick out of Ole Miss was released on Wednesday.

Aug 31, 2023 11:31 AM

The $17.125 million annual average and $42 .5 million guarantee are the highest for a tight end in NFL history.

The Vikings acquired Hockenson from the Detroit Lions at last season's trade deadline. After joining the Vikings, Hockenson caught 60 balls for 519 yards and three touchdowns.

Josh Jacobs Puts Contract Issues In Past: 'It's A Clean Slate With Me'

Aug 31, 2023 7:07 AM

Josh Jacobs signed an adjusted, one-year contract with the Las Vegas Raiders over the weekend after a lengthy dispute over his value.

Speaking on Wednesday for the first time since returning to the Raiders, Jacobs said he harbors no ill will.

"I mean s---, we here. I mean I feel like we made it happen," Jacobs said. "So, it ain't no hard feelings now. I feel like I said, 'We made it happen' so it's a clean slate with me. It was never really like no hate on each side. But at the same time I understood my value, too. It was just about meeting in the middle."

The "middle" was a deal that offered Jacobs a chance to make nearly $2 million more than he would have received under the franchise tag, thanks to the addition of incentives in the one-year contract he signed.

Joe Montana Calls Dan Marino The Greatest QB In NFL History

Aug 31, 2023 7:02 AM

Joe Montana has offered his opinion on who he thinks is the greatest quarterback in NFL history.

Montana didn't name himself, or even Tom Brady, but rather longtime Miami Dolphins signal-caller Dan Marino.

"Put Marino into today's game where he gets free release ... and his receivers, holy cow, weren't very big," Montana told Men’s Health. "Now these guys are 6'4," 6'5." I think [Marino] is probably one of the most unsung heroes of the game. People don't talk enough about him or realize the numbers that he put up during the times that he put them up."

In Marino's greatest season, 1984, he passed for 5,084 yards and 48 touchdowns. Montana says Marino could throw the football in a way that other quarterbacks couldn't.

"He had a quick release. I had to step into a lot of things to get enough [force] on the ball," Montana said of Marino. "He had the perfect torque of his upper body and strength to deliver the ball quickly at a fast release with accuracy."

Colts Asked For Jaylen Waddle In Jonathan Taylor Talks With Dolphins

Aug 31, 2023 6:56 AM

The Indianapolis Colts discussed Jonathan Taylor with multiple teams before this week's soft deadline to trade the running back.

Reports immediately surfaced that the Colts were seeking a significant haul for Taylor, notably a first-round pick. Now a Miami Herald report states that Indianapolis wanted wide receiver Jaylen Waddle "and more" from the Dolphins in exchange for Taylor.

Waddle was the sixth overall pick in 2021. The Colts placed Taylor on the physically unable to perform list Tuesday, immediately lowering his trade value.

Niners Adamant Nick Bosa Won't Be Traded, Envision Deal Soon

Aug 31, 2023 6:52 AM

The San Francisco 49ers remain confident they'll sign Nick Bosa to a lucrative contract extension and that there's no scenario in which they would trade the defensive end.

Kyle Shanahan said recently that Bosa's extension negotiations have gone about how he expected, even though Bosa has not been with the team since it opened training camp July 25.

"I thought it would come probably at this time, just looking at the history of those things," Shanahan said. "And I'm really hoping it gets done. I know they're working tirelessly at it ... but hopefully we can get him in here sooner than later."

Asked if there was even a percentage chance he'd consider trading Bosa, John Lynch minced no words.

"No," Lynch said. "Real simple."

Joshua Dobbs 'Prepared' To Start For Cardinals In Week 1

Aug 31, 2023 6:49 AM

Joshua Dobbs says he was "excited" to learn he'd been traded to the Arizona Cardinals from the Cleveland Browns last week.

Dobbs said he was "definitely" close to joining the Cardinals as a free agent but said his familiarity with the Browns, with whom he played most of the 2022 season, led him to return.

Even though Jonathan Gannon declined to name a starting quarterback for the season opener, Dobbs said he has put the expectations of being a starter on himself.

Kyler Murray will open the season on the physically unable to perform list and miss at least the first four games.

"I know the QB situation's gonna play out however the coaches see fit," Dobbs said of the team's decision between him and fifth-round rookie Clayton Tune. "But, for me, I come in ready to compete every single day. I push myself, but also approach the room in that way, and so I'm excited to be a part of it and be a part of the team."

Colts GM: Jonathan Taylor Situation 'Sucks' For Everyone

Aug 31, 2023 6:43 AM

Chris Ballard admitted on Wednesday that the situation between the Indianapolis Colts and Jonathan Taylor "sucks" for the team, player and fans.

The Colts placed Taylor on the physically unable to perform list after they were unable to trade him prior to Tuesday's self-imposed deadline.

"I'm not going to sit here and give you some rosy picture, like, 'Oh, everything's OK,'" Ballard said. "It sucks for the Colts. It sucks for Jonathan Taylor. And it sucks for our fans. It just does. It's where we're at and we've got to work through it and we're going to do everything we can to work through it. Relationships are repairable. They're repairable."

Taylor is entering the final year of his contract and the Colts told the running back in May that they would not be giving him an extension prior to the 2023 season.

The running back requested a trade when reporting for training camp and, last week, was given permission to seek a trade partner.

"I want everybody to know, Jonathan is a well-respected and a really good human being and a damn good football player," the general manager said. "I think we all know this. Things like this happen. I tell every rookie that comes in, there's going to be a point when we disagree and it's usually about money and it's going to be hard. And just know that doesn't change my care level for you. I care deeply for Jonathan Taylor.

"I won't quit on the relationship."

Chiefs GM Hopeful Of Chris Jones Return Before Opener

Aug 31, 2023 6:38 AM

Chris Jones continues to hold out, but the Kansas City Chiefs remain hopeful that the defensive star could play in the Sept. 7 season opener against the Detroit Lions at Arrowhead Stadium.

"We're certainly hopeful of that," general manager Brett Veach said. "We're looking forward to next Thursday and hopefully he's in the lineup and he's ready to go."

Jones has one season remaining on the four-year contract he signed with the Chiefs in 2020 but has been absent from all of this season's practices in an effort to get a new deal.

Veach said communication between the Chiefs and Jones has picked up in recent days, though he wouldn't say whether he thought the sides were making progress toward a new contract.

"We're going to continue to press on," Veach said. "We're just going to keep working on this thing."
