Lions Open Practice Window For QB Hendon Hooker

Nov 30, 2023 8:25 AM

The Detroit Lions are opening the practice window for rookie quarterback Hendon Hooker.

Hooker tore his ACL last November while at Tennessee.

Despite the injury, the Lions took Hooker with the No. 68 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Dan Campbell said that a big reason for opening his practice window is for the team to start building him up.

"Yeah, by rule we can't coach him, so that's why," Campbell said. "I mean we can't -- we can have him in meetings, but he can't be out there and going through any fundamental work. You've just got to kind of stand there. So, that's where it helps, to be able to actually do individual work with him, have him take a snap. That's why it's big. I mean it'd be nice to just do some of those things with him, but that's why you've got to get him on the roster. Otherwise, rules don't allow for him to do any of that."

The Lions will now have 21 days to activate Hooker onto the 53-man roster. If they do not, they'll revert to injured reserve for the remainder of the 2023 season.

NFL Suspends Cameraman Over Tyreek Hill Stunt

Nov 30, 2023 8:18 AM

The NFL has suspended cameraman Kevin Fitzgibbons for the remainder of the 2023 season and "possibly for good" for allowing Tyreek Hill to use his camera as a prop during a Week 6 game between the Miami Dolphins and Carolina Panthers.

Hill's celebration went viral as a result of him using the phone as a prop.

"The NFL then let me know that I was suspended for the remainder of the season and possibly for good," Fitzgibbons said in a video posted on social media.

"They said regardless if I knew the celebration was coming or not, I still had to be disciplined and that I shouldn't have jumped on the sidelines after the play. One of the best moments of my life turned upside down in a matter of seconds. I get why the NFL had to make this decision and wish I could've done something to prevent it, but I'm thankful for the memory Tyreek gave me," he said. "This was the greatest job in the world and I never took a day for granted. I can't thank the NFL enough for the opportunity. Whether it's back with the NFL or starting a new sport, I just hope to get another chance at doing what I love."

Fitzgibbons, 20, also revealed that he actually met Hill previously, and the two were close following the star wideout's trade to the Dolphins in 2022.

Bryce Young Not Blaming Frank Reich For Struggles

Nov 30, 2023 8:14 AM

Bryce Young said he accepts some of the responsibility for the Carolina Panthers firing Frank Reich on Monday.

"We all do. We all share in that," Young said. "We never want to see people get fired. We wanted to come in and conquer things together and accomplish our goals together. We all take responsibility in that."

Young also made it clear he doesn't believe Reich failed him in terms of his or the offense's development during an NFL-worst 1-10 start.

"We all take ownership, especially offensively," he said. "It's all of us. We all want to do better. It's a collective unit. There's no finger pointing from players, coaches. Nothing. We all could have been better."

Joe Flacco Could Start For Browns Against Rams

Nov 30, 2023 8:10 AM

The Cleveland Browns have elevated Joe Flacco to the No. 2 quarterback on their depth chart, putting him in line to potentially start on Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams.

Dorian Thompson-Robinson remains in the concussion protocol and sat out Wednesday's practice.

Flacco would be the fourth quarterback to start for the Browns this season.

"Big, strong arm. Obviously, he can make every throw," Kevin Stefanski said of 38-year-old Flacco. "He's done a very nice job in the meeting room, getting to know his teammates, getting to know the system. He's done a nice job."

Aaron Rodgers Cleared To Practice 11 Weeks After Achilles Surgery

Nov 29, 2023 3:02 PM

Aaron Rodgers has been cleared to practice exactly 11 weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a torn Achilles.

The Jets have 21 days to decide whether to activate Rodgers from injured reserve. The period expires Dec. 20, four days before they face the Washington Commanders, which is the game he's targeting for a return.

Rodgers turns 40 on Saturday and is attempting an unprecedented comeback from Achilles surgery.

Robert Saleh said Rodgers is cleared for functional football activity but not cleared for contact.

On Tuesday, Rodgers told "The Pat McAfee Show" that his decision to return will be based on two factors: his health and the team's standing in the playoff race.

Bijan Robinson Isn't Worried About Touches

Nov 29, 2023 9:01 AM

The Atlanta Falcons haven't used Bijan Robinson heavily after drafting him with the eighth overall pick, but the running back isn't concerned.

He was used heavily in Week 12, totaling 123 yards on 19 touches with two touchdowns.

"This is what they expected of me," Robinson said after the Falcons' win over the New Orleans Saints.

Robinson said he's aware of the interest from the fantasy-football community in seeing him do more, but that he has no choice but to ignore it.

"I never wanna be the guy to talk about touches," Robinson said. "I just know that whatever touches i do get, I have to make the most of it."

Tyreek Hill Says Dolphins Are Better Than His Super Bowl Chiefs Team

Nov 29, 2023 8:54 AM

Tyreek Hill says his current Miami Dolphins team is the best team he's played for, despite winning Super Bowl LIV with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Hill credited Mike McDaniel for the way he handles the team.

"The way our head coach prepares us each and every week man, it's next level. And he keeps each and every one of his guys in tune with the game plan and how we keep attention to detail each and every week," Hill said.

"So it's a beautiful thing to see the way we practice, the way we play for one another is something that I've never seen before in a team. I won a Super Bowl and I feel like this is probably the better team than when we won a Super Bowl back when I was on K.C."

The Dolphins are 8-3 and in first place in the AFC East. If the playoffs began today, Miami would be the No. 4 seed in the conference.

Vikings Will Start Quarterback Who Can Maximize Justin Jefferson

Nov 29, 2023 8:48 AM

With Justin Jefferson returning from injured reserve, Kevin O'Connell says the Minnesota Vikings will start the quarterback that can best maximize the star wide receiver.

The Vikings are off in Week 13 and have three options at quarterback -- Josh Dobbs, Jaren Hall and Nick Mullins.

After Dobbs threw four interceptions Monday night in a 12-10 loss to the Chicago Bears, O'Connell said he would use the team's upcoming bye to reevaluate his options at the position.

On Tuesday, he said Jefferson's return is "definitely a part" of the discussion he'll have with his coaching staff and the team's front office before choosing a starter for the Vikings' Dec. 10 game at the Las Vegas Raiders.

"Justin's role in our offense, really from Day 1 since we arrived here, has always been very, very significant," O'Connell said. "... Anytime you can infuse the best receiver in football back into your offense, there's going to be ways to not only get Justin going and make sure he has a critical impact on the football game ... [and] the quarterback position absolutely plays into that.

"We're going to make sure that whoever is playing quarterback is aware and understands the intent behind plays where either Justin is the primary [target], or based upon coverage, based upon the defensive look, how to quickly and efficiently get to the right place to go with the football. In the end that's what the NFL passing game is about: rhythm, timing, understanding that the defense can and will take some things away, but progressing in rhythm."
