Antonio Brown Lobbying Steelers To Extend Le'Veon Bell

Jul 23, 2017 6:27 PM

Antonio Brown is lobbying for the Pittsburgh Steelers to secure Le'Veon Bell for the long-term.

Bell will play this season on a franchise tag of $12.12 million after he and the Steelers couldn't reach an extension by the July 17 deadline.

"We need him. I need him," Brown said. "If we're going to do what we desire to do, we need every guy a part of the organization in a helmet to be there committed to the cause. He's a special piece. Obviously we know what he brings to the team, his dimension playing football, but he's a special individual. I pray that we have him there."

Brown signed a four-year, $68-million extension in February.

Browns May Use Duke Johnson As Top Slot Receiver

Jul 24, 2017 8:40 AM

The Cleveland Browns may use Duke Johnson as their primary slot receiver this season.

Johnson, a running back by definition, had more receiving yards than rushing yards in each of his first two NFL seasons.

Andrew Hawkins was Cleveland's No. 1 slot option last season, but he signed with the New England Patriots this offseason. Johnson caught 53 passes for 514 yards and ran 73 times for 358 yards last year.

Jerry Jones: No Domestic Violence Evidence Against Ezekiel Elliott

Jul 24, 2017 8:33 AM

Jerry Jones has come out in defense of Ezekiel Elliott as the running back awaits possible discipline for an alleged domestic violence incident last July in Columbus, Ohio.

"I have reviewed everything, and there is absolutely nothing -- not one thing -- that had anything to do with domestic violence," the Dallas Cowboys owner said.

However, Jones would not delve into whether Elliott could still be suspended by the NFL under the personal conduct policy.

Teddy Bridgewater Likely To Begin Season On PUP List

Jul 23, 2017 6:18 PM

Teddy Bridgewater will likely begin camp with the Minnesota Vikings on the physically unable to perform list.

“I think so, but again I haven’t seen him,” said Mike Zimmer on whether he will begin the season on the PUP list

Bridgewater suffered a torn left ACL and dislocated knee in a practice last August and missed the entire regular season. He did some throwing to receivers during spring drills but wasn’t cleared to practice.

Bridgewater wore a knee brace during spring drills. Earlier this month, though, he posted online a picture of him throwing without the brace.

Richard Sherman Describes Relationship With Wilson As Professional

Jul 23, 2017 5:07 PM

Richard Sherman described his relationship with Russell Wilson as "professional" in nature.

There have been reports that the Seattle Seahawks have a fractured locker room.

"We're pros. We hang out from time to time. We get along. Everybody gets along," Sherman told ESPN's Josina Anderson. "But is my relationship with Russell the same as it is with Doug [Baldwin]? Or the same as it is with Bobby [Wagner]? No. But is his relationship with me the same as it is with Noe [Tyler Lockett] or [Justin] Britt? It's just different dynamics. But as teammates, we're phenomenal."

A recent story detailed a play during a 2014 practice in which Sherman intercepted Wilson, threw the ball back at him and yelled, "You f---ing suck!"

Sherman said the anecdote was "100 percent true" but argued that it simply illustrated the Seahawks' competitive practice environment.

Larry Fitzgerald Remains Guarded On When He May Retire

Jul 23, 2017 5:04 PM

Larry Fitzgerald has dodged questions on whether he will retire from the NFL after the 2017 season. But Fitzgerald knows when he does retire, he will do so without tears.

"I feel good right now," Fitzgerald said. "When that changes, I'll let you know."

Fitzgerald enters 2017 third all-time in receptions.

"That's not how I am," he said. "I'm just one player out of 1,600 in the National Football League and it's a lot bigger than me. It's never going to be like that."

Fitzgerald said this summer he'll address his future once during training camp.

"The end is never really pretty for elite athletes," Fitzgerald said. "It never looks good for the most time. You watch Michael Jordan in a Washington Wizards uniform or see Tony Dorsett playing for the Denver Broncos or Shaquille O'Neal playing for the Boston Celtics. It's weird because you're used to seeing them play at their most dominant stage, or Willie Mays running around with bad knees 20 years in. It's not pretty but for me, I really want to be able to play and do things at a high level and be able to walk away and still be someone who can play at a high level."

Adam Jones Receives One-Game Suspension From NFL

Jul 21, 2017 2:15 PM

Adam Jones has been suspended one game by the NFL for a violation of the league's personal conduct policy.

Jones' suspension stems from his January arrest at a hotel in downtown Cincinnati. He allegedly pushed a security guard, poked him in the eye and refused to comply with law enforcement officers.

Jones pleaded guilty in May to the obstruction charge. He was sentenced to two days in jail, which had already been served.
