Jonathan Stewart On Losing Carries To Christian McCaffrey: Who Cares?

May 31, 2017 9:07 AM

Jonathan Stewart isn't worried about losing carries to rookie Christian McCaffrey with the Carolina Panthers this coming season.

"Stop talking about that. Who cares?" Stewart said. "We want to win the Super Bowl, right? That's the bottom line. It's not about people getting carries. It's not about people getting catches or touchdowns.

"It's about what can you contribute to get us to the Super Bowl."

The Panthers used the eighth overall pick on McCaffery earlier this month.

Andy Dalton: A.J. Green Is 'Better Than 'He's Been'

May 31, 2017 9:02 AM

A.J. Green hasn't been slowed by the hamstring injury that prematurely ended his 2016 season during the Cincinnati Bengals' OTAs this month.

Green is entering his seventh season, but Andy Dalton believes he's ready to reach new heights.

"I would say he's better than he's been," Dalton said. "It's the best shape he's been in, probably. He's fast, he's big. He's been doing it all. Even if you said he was the same, that's really good."

Matt Jones Wants Washington To Release Or Trade Him

Jun 1, 2017 8:27 AM

Matt Jones isn't in the Washington's plans, which is why he hasn't yet attended their voluntary workout sessions.

The running back wants to be released or traded. Washington has no plans to release Jones.

Jones opened the 2016 season as Washington's starter, rushing for 460 yards in the first seven games. He was sidelined by a knee injury, then lost his starting job to rookie free agent Rob Kelley. He was inactive for the team's final nine games.

Torrey Smith: Colin Kaepernick Didn't Commit Crime

May 31, 2017 8:51 AM

Torrey Smith says his former teammate is being blackballed and treated more harshly than players in the league who have committed crimes.

New York Giants co-owner John Mara recently said that he received a number of "emotional" letters from fans saying that if any Giants players protest the way Kaepernick did, by kneeling during the national anthem, they would never come to another game.

"I heard he's one of the best owners in the league, so I don't want people to think I'm disrespecting this guy. I'm not," Smith said. "But it's just the fact that he commented about people, the fans, being mad about that but you just had a [kicker] on your team who you were trying to hold onto for dear life until it was too late."

Smith was referencing Josh Brown, whom the Giants re-signed despite a domestic violence allegation against him. They ultimately released Brown in October.

"People are accepting and willing to [forgive] people when they beat the hell out of women, sell drugs, do whatever and commit all kinds of crimes and you're able to forget that," said Smith, who is now with the Philadelphia Eagles. "I'm a believer in second chances. I believe in second chances for a guy like [Bengals rookie] Joe Mixon, even though I'm an advocate against domestic violence.

"But I think you have to be open-minded to know that [Kaepernick] did not commit a crime, he didn't hurt anybody, he didn't do anything. It was a protest, and now people are kind of locking him out or don't want to support anybody that's associated with him when you're willing to support people who beat women, do all kinds of other crazy things. It just doesn't make sense."

Derek Carr Won't Discuss Extension With Raiders During Camp

Jun 1, 2017 12:09 PM

Derek Carr has given the Oakland Raiders a deadline of training camp to discuss a contract extension.

Carr will break off talks and play the 2017 season under the final season of his rookie contract if the two sides are unable to agree upon an extension by the start of training camp.

"I wouldn't even answer my phone," Carr said Tuesday, following the Raiders' open-to-the-media OTA practice. "The money isn't the thing that drives me. ... What drives me is making sure I'm giving everything that I have with my abilities, and making sure that we win. And I don't want anything distracting my thought process at all.

"Now, that's not a jab, or anything like that. That's just me saying I'm not going to deal with anything that's not helping me just focus on winning."

Seahawks Unlikely To Sign Colin Kaepernick

May 31, 2017 9:07 AM

The Seattle Seahawks are unlikely to sign Colin Kaepernick.

The Seahawks have been the only team to express interest in Kaepernick this offseason.

Despite starting last season for the San Francisco 49ers, Kaepernick has received little to no interest in free agency.

Kaepernick kneeled during the national anthem throughout the 2016 season, but he's said he won't do so again in 2017.

Adam Vinatieri Has No Plans To Retire

May 30, 2017 7:16 PM

Adam Vinatieri is the oldest player in the NFL at age 44, but he has no plans to retire.

"Yeah, you know I still love the game as much as I ever have," Vinatieri said. "It's fun running out onto the field. It's much more fun playing in the playoffs. Cleaning out your locker the first week of January is not a whole lot of fun and it always leaves a lousy taste in your mouth. I still love running out onto the field. I still think I can help our team win games and why not keep going?"

The Indianapolis Colts' kicker turns 45 on December 28. By the end of the season, he'll become just the eighth player in NFL history to play at age 45.

Michael Vick Hasn't Discussed One-Day Retirement Deal With Falcons

May 30, 2017 7:18 PM

Michael Vick has clarified recent statements regarding his retirement, saying he has not spoken with anyone from the Atlanta Falcons about signing a one-day contract to retire with the team.

"Well, I haven't talked to anybody about it specifically," Vick said. "It's something that I've really been thinking about trying to get done. I was asked the question the other day -- is that what I want -- and I said, 'Yeah.'

"So, yeah, I think in due time, it's something that can potentially happen."

Vick has maintained a close relationship with Falcons owner Arthur Blank, who invited him to attend the final regular-season game at the Georgia Dome.
