Reports surfaced this weekend that Bill Belichick signed a new, lucrative contract extension with the New England Patriots this offseason.
There were no specific details about the pact and Belichick declined to discuss his contract during his weekly appearance on Boston's WEEI on Monday morning.
"Yeah, I'm not talking about that," Belichick said.
With Sunday's win over the Buffalo Bills, Belichick became the third head coach in NFL history to win 300 regular season games.
New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick recorded his 300th career regular-season win in dramatic fashion Sunday, as quarterback Mac Jones led a touchdown drive in the final minute of a 29-25 triumph over the Buffalo Bills at Gillette Stadium.
The Patriots (2-6) were on the cusp of letting a game they led for large stretches slip away from them before Jones engineered an eight-play, 75-yard scoring drive after taking over with 1:58 left on the clock.
Jones hit tight end Mike Gesicki on a 1-yard pass with 12 seconds remaining.
In hopes of sparking their struggling offense, the New England Patriots signed dynamic receiver/quarterback Malik Cunningham to their 53-man roster Saturday.
Cunningham, who finished his career at Louisville ranked fourth in school history with 9,664 passing yards and third with 3,184 rushing yards, spent the first five weeks of the season on the team's practice squad.
He is expected to be active as the Patriots (1-4) visit the Raiders (2-3) on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium (4:05 p.m. ET, CBS).
The New England Patriots are open to firing Bill Belichick if the team's struggles continue, according to a report.
Belichick is widely viewed as the greatest coach in NFL history, but owner Robert Kraft is frustrated with the team's struggles since Tom Brady departed in 2020.
"There's a school of thought that suggests Bill Belichick has earned the right to go out on his own accord, that the architect of the greatest dynasty in NFL history can coach in New England as long as he chooses," Jeff Howe reported for The Athletic. "Kraft doesn't subscribe to it."
Belichick has guided the Patriots to six Super Bowl wins, but they haven't won a playoff game since 2018 and enter Week 6 at 1-4.
The New England Patriots have agreed to a trade with the Los Angeles Chargers for cornerback J.C. Jackson, according to sources.
The Patriots are sending a 2025 sixth-round pick to the Chargers, who will send Jackson and a 2025 seventh-round pick to New England.
The two teams are also reworking Jackson's remaining $9.33 million salary for 2023, with New England covering around $1.5 million and the Chargers covering the rest in a signing bonus, according to a report.
Jackson's contract, which runs through the 2026 season, stays intact otherwise.
The Patriots were in need of a cornerback after rookie Christian Gonzalez suffered a shoulder injury in Week 4.
New England Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien says he views Mac Jones' struggles against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 4 as an outlier.
Jones threw two interceptions in Sunday's 38-3 loss, one of which was dangerously delivered across the field and returned for a touchdown. The quarterback also lost a fumble that was returned for a touchdown while attempting to run away from pressure.
"Some of the decisions that he made were very uncharacteristic of Mac," O'Brien said. "He's just trying to make a play, he's wanting to win, he's very competitive. I think you'll see a lot of improvement in Mac as we keep moving forward here."
Bill Belichick said after Sunday's game that Jones is still New England's top quarterback.
In the midst of the worst loss of his head-coaching career, Patriots coach Bill Belichick pulled starting quarterback Mac Jones with 3:41 remaining in the third quarter, saying it wasn't a benching and that Jones remains the team's No. 1 option.
"I didn't think there was any point of leaving him in the game," Belichick said after his New England Patriots were blown out by the Dallas Cowboys, 38-3, at AT&T Stadium.
