Report: Mac Jones To Be Fined For Block On Eli Apple

Dec 27, 2022 9:28 AM

Mac Jones will reportedly be fined for a low block on Eli Apple during the New England Patriots' 22-18 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday.

According to the report, Jones will be fined $11,139 for what the Bengals cornerback called a "dirty play."

When asked about the play and whether he saw what Jones did, Apple said, "Of course I did [notice it]. He tripped me."

He also accused him of doing it before this, explaining, "I thought it was a dirty play. He's done that before, I've seen it."

Patriots Players Say Costly Laterals Were Improvised

Dec 19, 2022 9:03 AM

Jakobi Meyers made no excuses for his role in the shocking play that ended Sunday's game between the New England Patriots and Las Vegas Raiders with no time left.

Meyers' careless lateral attempt was caught by Raiders defensive end Chandler Jones and returned 48 yards for the game-winning touchdown as time expired.

"Just trying to do too much, trying to be a hero, I guess," Meyers said. "I thought I saw Mac [Jones] open. I didn't see Chandler Jones at the time. I thought [Mac] was open and tried to get it to him, and let him try to make a play with it. But the score was tied, so I should have went down."

Why the Patriots were lateraling at all in a tie game was a surprise, as players said that wasn't what was supposed to happen.

The Patriots had the ball at their 45-yard line with three seconds left and the score tied at 24. Meyers said the instructions in the huddle were straight-forward: "Just run the ball, go down."

Rhamondre Stevenson picked up 23 yards on a draw play, then lateraled back to Meyers at around the Raiders' 40-yard line. That was the catalyst for Meyers' own mistake, a lateral more than 10 yards behind him.

"It's not his fault," Meyers said of Stevenson. "He gave me the ball because he trusted me. I have to be smarter with it."

Stevenson took accountability, saying: "The coaches gave us a play just to kind of run the time out, just get down. I feel like I should have did just that. The playcall is just a draw play and nothing more, nothing less than that. I'm supposed to know the situation, I'm supposed to know how much time is on the clock. Critical situations. I failed to do that today."

Mac Jones: 'I Like To Show My Passion On The Field'

Dec 14, 2022 8:50 AM

Mac Jones has been caught on television broadcasts voicing frustrations and annoyances with the offense, but the New England Patriots quarterback will make no apologies.

"I think football is an emotional sport. I like to show my passion on the field," Jones said on WEEI's Merloni, Fauria and Mego.

"We're out there to win and do everything we can to win. Sometimes we've just gotta put together a better performance. A lot of that is just the leadership that comes from getting the guys to play and doing a good job of working together. And just trying to create longer drives and score more points. At the end of the day, it's an emotional game. You want to be able to show emotion and not let it affect your play."

NFLPA Reviewing Handling Of DeVante Parker's Injury

Dec 14, 2022 8:43 AM

The NFL Players Association is looking into why Monday night's game wasn't stopped when New England Patriots wide receiver DeVante Parker showed concussion symptoms.

Parker was wobbly getting up after a hit in the first half against the Arizona Cardinals. Nelson Agholor had to signal to the officials to stop the game and remove Parker before the next play.

Parker called out the NFL via his Instagram story on Tuesday, writing: "Get on yalls f---in jobs @NFL," and thanked Agholor for being "aware of the situation."

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray was carted off the field with a noncontact knee injury less than 90 seconds into Monday night's game against the New England Patriots.

Murray is scheduled to undergo further testing on Tuesday, including an MRI, but a source told ESPN there is "little doubt that it's torn," referring to an ACL.

In his postgame news conference, Arizona coach Kliff Kingsbury said Murray's injury "doesn't look good, but we'll know more in the morning."

Mac Jones On Sideline Outburst: 'We Needed A Spark'

Dec 2, 2022 8:39 AM

Mac Jones' frustration boiled over on the sideline during the New England Patriots' 24-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Thursday night, but the quarterback said it wasn't directed at anyone specifically.

The broadcast showed Jones at one point as he appeared to be saying, "Throw the f---ing ball! The quick game sucks!"

The Patriots played from behind for the final three quarters.

"Obviously, I just kind of let my emotions get to me," he said. "What I said was about throwing it deeper within the short game. I got to execute that part better. But it's the short game that we kept going to, which is working. But I felt like we needed chunk plays. I shouted that out to kind of get everyone going. That's emotional. That's football. I'm passionate about this game.

"Obviously, you don't want to let your emotions get the best of you. I think that's pretty much it. It wasn't directed at anybody. Just emotion coming out. We kind of needed a spark."

Jones said he believed he was on the same page as the coaching staff, specifically with Matt Patricia, who calls in the plays to him.

"It was just [saying], 'Let's go for it, let's be aggressive, let's take those shots. Just go down fighting,'" Jones said. "Matty P was on the same page. We kind of did it there at the end and moved it a little bit more."
