Raiders Hire Josh McDaniels As Head Coach, Dave Zieger As GM

Jan 31, 2022 8:16 AM

The Las Vegas Raiders will hire Josh McDaniels as their new head coach. The Raiders also announced Dave Ziegler as general manager.

Both McDaniels and Ziegler join the Raiders from the New England Patriots.

The 44-year-old Ziegler, the New England Patriots' director of player personnel, replaces Mike Mayock, who was fired earlier this month.

McDaniels was previously head coach of the Denver Broncos for two seasons. McDaniels accepted the Indianapolis Colts' head-coaching job in 2018 but then decided not to take it.

Report: Tom Brady Will Retire After 22 Seasons, 7 Super Bowls

Jan 31, 2022 8:10 AM

Tom Brady has decided to retire after 22 seasons in the NFL and seven Super Bowl titles.

When the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were eliminated from the playoffs, Brady knew it was likely his final act as a football player, sources said. In the days since, he has spent time digesting that mindset and is preparing his retirement announcement along with the next chapter of his life and career, sources said.

Brady's decision to retire is based on several factors, including family and health. Although it's less significant, Brady also recognizes that the Buccaneers are likely to undergo significant roster turnover.

Brady wanted to avoid a farewell season and wanted his decision to be made without much drama leading up to it.

It is unknown when Brady will formalize his plans to retire, but that move will be made with consideration to not upstage the NFL's postseason games, including the Super Bowl. Brady's company, TB12 Sports, sent a tweet that appeared to confirm his decision but later deleted the post.
