Devin McCourty On Mac Jones: He's The Future Of New England

Feb 27, 2023 8:53 AM

Devin McCourty, who hasn't said whether or not he'll play next season, issued a strong statement of support behind Mac Jones as the quarterback of the future for the New England Patriots.

"I think sky's the limit," McCourty said on NFL Network. "I think he's the future of New England. Any doubts, I think you're wrong if you don't think that. He's in that building right now doing different things, working with guys, talking to guys; that's what he wants. He wants to be that quarterback."

McCourty said he believes that the addition of offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien will bring the "stability" that Jones was missing while playing under Matt Patricia and Joe Judge last season.

Tom Brady's Dad Suggests Quarterback Was Tired Of Getting Hit

Feb 8, 2023 9:48 AM

Tom Brady didn't offer a specific reason when he retired from football for the second time earlier this month.

In the days since his announcement, Brady has said one reason he's walking away is because it's the "right time."

In an interview with ESPN's Mike Greenberg, Tom Brady, Sr. revealed a reason why the quarterback decided to call it quits.

"This has been a really rough six months on his personal life, his family life, on his football life," Brady Sr. said of his son. "He once said this, he said, 'I'm getting tired of getting hit.' You know, having played 23 years and he holds the ignominious record of most sacks [taken] in the NFL -- I think 600 or 700 sacks -- and there must be another two or three thousand knockdowns."

With Brady getting older, it seems that the hits were starting to take a bigger toll.

"At 45 years of age, you say, 'Hey, do I want to get hit one more time,'" Brady Sr. said. "The answer's really 'No, I really don't want to unless everything's clicking.' Unfortunately, it wasn't clicking this year and I think it was a foregone conclusion [that he would retire]."

Robert Kraft Hopes To Sign Tom Brady To One-Day Retirement Deal

Feb 2, 2023 10:16 AM

Robert Kraft told CNN he hopes to sign Tom Brady to a one-day retirement deal with the New England Patriots.

For the second-straight year, Brady announced his retirement from the NFL on Wednesday. He insisted that he'd stick with the decision this time around.

"I'd do it tomorrow," Kraft said of inking Brady to a ceremonial contract. "Not only do I want it, our fans are clamoring for it and to us, he always has been and always will be a Patriot. ... We'll do everything we can in our power to bring him back, sign off as a Patriot and find ways to honor him for many years to come. He did so much to bring life and good cheer to our community and he's a beloved figure and he's earned the respect and love that people feel for him like no other athlete in our town and we've had some great ones."
