Bill O'Brien Given General Manager Title By Texans

Jan 28, 2020 9:11 PM

The Houston Texans have added general manager to the title of Bill O'Brien.

Cal McNair said in a statement that he “thought it was important to update titles, roles and responsibilities for Bill O’Brien and Jack Easterby so they more accurately reflect the way we have been operating for the past eight months.”

He added that he “was encouraged by the progress that our team made on the field this year which was due in part to our new structure, operating approach and the leaders within our football operations group.”

Bill O'Brien On Texans' Trades: 'Moves Did Pay Off'

Jan 15, 2020 9:15 AM

The Houston Texans were aggressive in their roster-building approach and Bill O'Brien thinks it paid off.

O'Brien has operated as general manager without holding the title following the dismissal of general manager Brian Gaine. He dealt away draft capital to upgrade the roster.

"I think that those moves did pay off," Bill O'Brien said. "Those guys came in, without mentioning each guy specifically, but I do believe that those guys came in and really entered into our culture of what we're trying to do, learned the systems, tried to go out there and those guys played well. I'm sure there's always plays that each one of them wish they could have back, but I think that those guys helped our team win this year, when we won.

"I think any move we make, we try to think about the long term. Now, you could probably pick and choose some moves where maybe contractually it doesn't seem like it's long term, but within the building and within the meeting rooms, we think about it more for long-term purposes as we move forward here. I think all those guys came in and contributed."

Deshaun Watson: 'No Doubt' Bill O'Brien Is Right Coach

Jan 13, 2020 11:27 AM

The Houston Texans coughed up a 24-point lead in less than 11 minutes against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, but Bill O'Brien still has the confidence of his players.

"There's no doubt," Deshaun Watson said. "I mean, you might have doubt, but there's no doubt. I mean, I love that man. I'm going to play hard for that man. Y'all can say whatever you want to say through all the media and all the writing, but as long as I'm at quarterback, he's cool with me.

"He's got my heart. He's going to get all of my 110% every time I step on that field. So y'all can say whatever, but [I'll] always be rooting for that man and going to play hard for him."

Watson became the first quarterback in NFL history to lose a playoff game with 300-plus pass yards, 3-plus total touchdowns (two passing, one rushing) and 0 giveaways.
